  • Tmax winch and Toyota Sovereign bullbars

Got my winch fitted today(ATS in Geelong) was told by Opposite Lock in Qld, that the Tmax would fit the Toyota sovereign bull bar with the Toyota winch fitting kit($245.00) well Cliff at ATS tried to fit the winch but the Tmax Fairlead would not fit, but Toyota could provide a Fairlead that would fit, only problem they could not supply for a few more days (about $200.00) however Darren came to the rescue with a alloy fairlead ($175.00) and plasma rope ($275.00) that had to be fitted because of the alloy fairlead and a mounting bracket that sits on the bull bar (not supplied by Tmax!) another $36.00!

Stevo, your still much better off, you ended up with a great winch, got rid of the horrible steel cable that comes with most winchs, in the process saved your self a few dollars & Kgs with the lighter & safer rope.

Which model winch did you get as the 10,000lb Tmax winchs have a heavy duty fairlead which is slightly larger than the Warns due to thier heavier construction, I had no problems fitting them to my TJM bar, plenty of room for a 15,000lb winch

Got the 9000lb winch, the Toyota Bull bar had no problems fitting the winch just the fairlead, it would not fit in the space toyota provided, and of course I would rather have the Plasma than wire, it was just a shock when i got the bill!!!
      cheers

          Hi Joey
wish you had sent the photos before, did you require a Toyota Fairlead Bracket on the outside of the bullbar? noticed you mounted the controller box inside the engine bay (thats where my second battery is), mine is sitting on top of the bar just above the winch( where your spotties are mounted)
Will try and organise photos soon,
          cheers

              Similar stuff to Joey ....

When I fitted the XD9000 I had to shave a poofteenth off the edges of the fairlead bracket to get it to fit into the gap. Now its as snug as a bug in a rug.

i also had to shave/grind a very small amount off my fairlead to fit it into the toyo bar.
i remember seeing also (someone posted not to long ago) that someone fitted their winch and had to trim the winch cradle (very slightly) to fit the bolt heads of the winch gearbox.
i also had to do this on my install.
so toyota only made the bar and cradle to suit their winches (superwinch X9). typical :?

                        Howdy all!

After a few searches i found this (exactly what i was after)

                        so some questions for you guys who have put in a TMax winch;

1- Fitting one of these to a soverign bar that has never had a winch fitted before, what extra parts (ie, parts not supplied with the purchase of a new winch) need to be purchased, and
2 - part numbers for any of those parts,
3 - modifications in relation to above?
4 - Any precautions using any other winch other then the Toyo genuine winch?

                        Thanks in advance!

As you have probably read, you will need a Toyota winch bar fitting kit, was quoted $197 from dealer but I later found there was only 3 available in the Eastern States and it finished up costing $245.00, then the installer had a problem with the Roller Fairlead, it wouldn't fit, (as others have explained there has to be some slight cutting to the Toyota bull bar, but with patience it will fit as others have said) I finished up getting Plasma rope, all up about $500.00 to get it installed,( the bullbar has to come off and there is a lot of fiddling)
                          cheers Stevo

actually its the fairlead that needs the slightest of shaving to the edges, not the bullbar....ends up a easy fit.. most 4x4 suppliers will tell or organise this for you, especially if you let them know in advance!

                              Hi Joey
I am surprised the installer had a problem with the fairlead, he rang me and said it would definatly not fit and they are 4x4 specialists!( ATS in Geelong),cost me an extra $450.00 for the Plasma and American alloy fairlead.
                              cheers Stevo
