Re: ARB roof rack

Is there anything available from ARB to hold down a spare tyre on their alloy rack? or is the setup Ntpryce has limited to the steel racks?...

Based on Davids comment on a previous page of this thread I would assume he has the steel rack. Straps can be used or by a Rhino J bolt or similar to attach a spare.

I had been looking at an Alloy Tray. Best price I got was $1000 + $160 for the leg kit. My father in law believes he has a contact through a Toyota Dealership here in Adelaide and can get it for $840 plus leg kit but I'm still going to get the Rhino Tray and racks since I'm paying $970 all up and also have the advantage of heavy duty racks for when I need to move stuff around. Quite a few Prados in the club I've joined have the Rhino and are are very impressed with it.

          Re: ARB roof rack

Just ordered ARB alloy rack from Regency park store.

          Cage list price $1096 + leg kit @ $178 ($1274 total)
          $85 if you want fitting.

          I paid $1179 w/o fitting.

Steel rack is $822 list. (+ leg kit)

No stock at the moment, a production run is happening at the moment and will be ready mid July.

Out of interest... all ARB metal products are made in OZ... racks, bars, steps plus the diff locks and compressors etc etc.... (So they told me today)

Sounds good. Had thought about the ARB Alloy but going for the Rhino. The Rhino seem to be a popular choice so in my mind have proved them selves, and are also cheaper. I also looked from the accessories I wish to attach and could easily get the fittings where as the ARB rack "seemed" to need drilling to attach bits and pieces.

              Re: ARB roof rack

              Picked up rack today.
For a minute I thought ARB were going to let me down... when I called they said the whole production run had been allocated and my name had been left off the list. Another month until the next run :!: Briefly not happy... a couple more phone calls later and it turns out there's been an error and my rack is coming off the truck as they speak.

It's lighter than I thought it would be... I'll get it on the scales tomorrow so we have a confirmed weight.

Picked it up on a mates Surf, put it on his Rhino bars with bungy cords.... looked a bit "dodgy brothers" but it was quite secure....

I'll try and get it on over the weekend... got to mod the roller door first though... need an extra inch or two clearance.

Good one MickL. I look forward to hearing how light it is and how it looks on your rig.

I reckon you might have got a few strange looks from passers-by with the ARB Roofrack tied down on another roofrack!!!

Our steel ARB roof rack has been as solid as a rock. It good a pretty good testing and beating over the past month or so - and has never let us down. Tough as nails, I reckon. 8)

Had the boys in blue (or Khaki for you  ) behind us all the way back to work.... they didn't even give us a second look so it must have looked pretty secure (and it was by the way... I wasn't about to leave it to crash onto the road along the way  )

                      Re: ARB roof rack

I got mine just before Xmas last year, It works great, and I got an ARB space case to fit camping gear in, it fits snuggly on the rack. The only complaint is the wife. She has to look around town for a carpark with clearance. Sure has cut down the shopping bill though
Graphite 150 series "Altitude" - MT ATZ 4-rib ATZ, ARB Delux winch bar, Magnum 9000lb winch, ARB CKMA12 air compressor(with tray) dual battery, LF 240 HID, Waeco 80L fridge, OL 45 lt fridge, ARB Roof Rack and space case, GME 3450 UHF, OME Shocks and Springs, ARB awning, BRC quad diff breather, TG150 gaurd, AMTS bash plates and a wishlist!!

The mounting kit (which is the same for steel/alloy baskets) weighs in at 7.4kg

Put the rack on today ready for our trip next week. Also added the Kaymar shovel/Hi-Lift holder.

                            Breeze to lift on.

My only complaint is the mounting system... the middle mounts are a PITA due to the mesh floor, it took a bit of dicking around to get the bottom plate on.

All in all a nice bit of kit... very happy with it.

Looking good MickL. Thanks heaps for the pics as I too have been pondering the ARB alloy. Can I ask though how much time is involved fitting it? Are we talking a 1/2 hour here... or longer. Similarly, how long to get it off again mountings and all. With the alloy one, can one bloke heft it around ok? Or is it still a 2 bloke job? Or *ahem* Bloke plus beefy missus  .

Only reason I ask is we're (still) looking at houses and many we see have pitifully low garage spaces and I'm looking at the Prado's height with trepidation. The Rhino alloy tray top system with the rack type mountings look like they come off in a jiff which sounds good. But damn me that ARB rack looks solid.
