  • D4D Air Box Holes and Safari Snorkel

Mate of mine has a D4D also and we had them kitted out at different ARB stores. Why do you care...We both had Safari snorkels fitted and his 3 factory holes in the air box were filled with silicone and mine were not. These holes are to the front of the air box on the engine side. Would be interesting to see who else has these holes open or not...

    I blocked mine off.

There is a fourth one up high on the front of the box as well.

My holes are unblocked. ( Plenty of mueslie perhaps! ). I have an airtec but I figger apart from cosmetics, it's no different to the Safari. I don't see why you'd probably bother blocking the holes as there's the pre-spin just foreward of the box with a great big dirty hole with a half dodgy looking rubber valve which would let water in pretty quick if you decided to stand still in a big puddle.

That rubber thing is a one way value and works remarkably well while the rubber is in good condition and free of debri. While the engine sucks in air (thru the filterbox) the valve closes tightly. You can remove the rubber valve by a half turn twist to clean out the build up of crap. If this is not done regularly the value will probably not close properly and you would more than likely get leakage. Pity some of the 2nd battery trays stops you from doing this

The thing of most concern with adding a snorkel or raising the height of the front diff/gearbox breathers to prevent possible mechanical damage from stopping in a deep puddle is the problem of the engine bay fuse/relay box height and that most of the electronics are only about 1 cm above the height of the original front diff breather !! Most of the toyota electronic stuff is not water proof !!

I fitted a snorkel as it very effectively raise the air intake from front splashes but a number of other problems remain. As a deep water wader the prados still have a number of problems. The only way to solve them is increasing the overall vehicle height.
"Ooops I just deleted the internet, lucky I was able to recover 99.7% of it out of the bin"

Would anyone care to take a photo of these holes cause I am not sure I am looking in the right place as I cannot find any holes.

Re: D4D Air Box Holes and Safari Snorkel

The 4th hole is higher up and it is supposed to align with the purple spot on the actual filter.

It is on the front of the air box on your left as you are looking at it.
