Hi all
I needed a UHF CB and searched the internet. I came across a bargain deal where you buy a GME TX 3440 and get a GME TX680 3 watt handheld for free.
As I had decided, thanks to this forum, to go for the TX 3440, I was really excited about this deal. Unfortunately it seemed to have expired at the end of last year. I hunted around and finally located a place that managed to get hold of 6 of them. I grabbed one and my son in law also grabbed one. There may be 4 left. A bargain at $429.00!
I then searched this forum for an installation location and liked the one behind the dash. So I did this and took a similar picture to the one already on this forum but from a slightly different angle. My photo shows more detail because I removed the lower section of the steering column shroud. This also made installation easier. It is a one bolt mounting (to one side) but the radio is so small and light that I am sure it is sufficient even over corrugations. Time will tell.
Main unit behind the dash:
Completed installation:
Microphone lead exit from dash:
The microphone holder was simply stuck on with super duper 3M double sided sticky tape. Again time will tell if it holds.
The microphone exit was achieved by simply removing a blank panel. It could look better and I may even mount the adapter that comes with the radio into the panel so that the microphone simply plugs in and out of the dash.
Cheers - John
