Yup, I just went straight through the floor with a tek screw. One day I'll get around to replacing it with a bolt and nyloc nut.

      Re: Fire Extinguisher Mounting

Use zinc plated Tek screws. Depending on the style of mounting bracket, at least one, if not both Tek screws wil penetrate straight through the floor. (One may end up in a dead space/double skinned section)

The tek screws need to be long enough to go through the carpet and sound deadner.

Smear some silicone/sealant on from under the body for peace of mind.

Don't screw it to that plastic foot rest bit... a heavy item like an extinguisher will pull the threads over time/rough roads (trust me... talking from experience)

        Re: Fire Extinguisher Mounting

Auto Fire Extinguishers are a tricky install. The brackets that come with them are not the best for the forces inside a vehicle especially of there is an impact or accident. We refer to them as missiles.

Most off-roaders up here use quickfists. they are rather cheap and create a secure mounting for any condition.

          Re: Fire Extinguisher Mounting

Mounted a fire extinguisher recently. Looked at several spots and finally chose the step inside the rear door on driver's side (which never gets used as a step anyway!).

This spot is perfect for the job - easy to mount the unit, easy to get at in case of fire, does not interfere with rear seat folding, does not snag the ladies' dresses when entering/leaving, and in the event of rear seat removal for cargo, sits snug below floor level.

Mounting is a bit tricky. Need to remove the step by taking out 2 x studs with a 10mm socket, after first removing the covers with a screw driver. Because the mounting bracket for the fire extinguisher covers the stud holes (well, one of them anyway), you will need to fit 2 x 6mm or 1/4" bolts 15mm long underneath with a nut on top. Replace the step in position and then mount the fire extinguisher bracket onto the protruding bolts.

          Regards,
          Ian.

Also take a look through this thread - a few ideas there.
