  • Ironman winch Install

    Hi All,

After a bit of research i decided to get an Ironman 9500lb Monster Winch, seem good value at $715, i know they say Warn is the Best etc but ive heard they are pretty good value for money & you cant go passed the 3 year warranty..la la la.
Anyways, i thought it would be a straight bolt in & wire up, But it seems that some modifying is needed,Why??? The Fairlead mounting holes dont match up & The Control box seems to need a bracket or something to mount in onto the Bullbar. I have had to rotate the gear box to get the Lever facing to top, but im not sure if i have to Drill the fairlead roller/ make bracket for control box, have search the Forum but could find the answers/pix to make it easier...Any help appreciated.

    regards, Steve J

The mounting holes for the fairlead were ok for my Warn. Are you fitting a hawse or roller fairlead? I have the ARB bar/Warn solenoid box mounting bracket spare as I didn't use it for my install.

Hi D4D, had to drill new holes in my Fairlead rollers, they were way out. I have the ARB winch bar too, had to make up a mounting base to fit solenoid box seem ok at the mo.
Took me longer than i thought, most of the day, all ready to go now.

      Thanks.

Cool, just make sure your rope comes off parallel to the ground in the middle of your fairlead and doesn't rest on a roller, if that makes sense. You're welcome to my bracket if the bracket you made doesn't work out.

                  Hi all

I have a opporunity to get a Ironman 9500lbs winch at a really good price.. BUT wanting to know if it is a goer on my ARB delux winch bar [prado vx 2007]... There seems to be varying commnets, etc here & on net on it...

                  1. will it fit 100%
                  2. does the winch need any drilling, etc to get it to fit?
                  3. any issues with fairlead fitment?
                  4. any issues getting the lever to the top (rotating gearbox)?
                  5. how does the control box mount with the arb bar?
                  6. any usage issues with it once installed in ?

Appreciate any help, etc to decide if I should get this winch or not.

                  cheers

                    Re: Ironman winch Install

I was also looking at the 9500lbs Ironman but the dealer here in Cairns has talked me into the 12000lbs Ironman.

The winch is the same size / dimensions just a modification in the motor with more HP.

After the last 4X4 Action winch comparison I think I'll spend the extra $100 to get more pulling power as I will be towing the Camping Trailer to the Cape next Dry session on the Tele Track.

                    Great price for a 12000lbs winch - $875

                      HI all

I am part way thru the install of the ironman 9500lb winch in to a arb winch bar....

The motor fitted in without removing the BBar and after rotaing the clutch handle it is in nicely!

Now I am after any tips, photos, info on best way and where to install/fit the solenoid box... (how to deal with the cable run, moutings, ability to still open bonnet easily )

                      Thanks in advance.

                      Cheers
