  • Headlight Protector Installation

    Hi everyone

Post number 1 and I am feeling a right royal newbie

I have just got a 07 GXL D4D and the Mrs got some headlight protectors (Genuine). Am about to install them and the sheet talks (step 2) about lifting up some of the rubber trim on top of the headlight assembly.

I have tried but mine seems to be glued down totally and no way I can lift it up without cutting or tearing it.

Anyone else had any trouble with this? I have tried to do a search here and google but come up with zilch

    Re: Headlight Protector Installation

You should be able to lift it up no worries. Sometimes it can be a little sticky, but just persist. Don't rip it all away though. You only need to lift it just enough to slide the part under. Then stick it down again. Easy.

    ps. Welcome to PPoint!

        Hi mate
yes had same issue -i was worried if i ripped it up it would eventually all come off - i cut a slit in mine with a stanley knife and slid it through -works ok but taking them off for cleaning is a bit fiddly!
Personally (in hindsight) i think the headlight being plastic you probably dont need them.... bit late now eh!

        cheers

          Re: Headlight Protector Installation

I had no idea they were plastic?

I cracked several headlights just driving from Brisbane to Caboolture (from roadworks) in my mazda 3 that I thought I had better buy some protectors.

Oh well, only cost me $70 so at least I know now.

Yes, I ended up using the sharp edge of the clip to "cut" the rubber away

            Re: Headlight Protector Installation

Even though they are plastic, I fitted the head light protectors mainly to stop, the insect guts from getting on the lights as after a while the guts seem to damage the plastic.

Mine come off with removing the screws. 30 second job. Keeps the bug guts off too. If you have to put new ones on because of a rock then it all lines up and bam you are done.

                Re: Headlight Protector Installation

On previous cars I've had more than one broken headlight due to stones thrown up behind trucks or passing people going the other way on gravel roads. Yes they're only plastic but they should stop most stones from connecting with your headlights. I figure if the protector shatters, but leaves the headlight untouched then I've got my moneys worth. Won't do much about our hopping friends though......
