Having just hit a roo (@1237hrs on the way home from a good party) and squashing our front bumper in a way that I'm pretty sure can't be fixed :shock: .....

Whats the best bullbar??
I'm just after your thoughts and opinions please as we will be getting a bar, not a new a bumper :mrgreen:

there r plenty of options, from tjm, ecb, arb and ironman to name a few, make sure you get 1 thats winch compatible if you r going to go down that path, you can even go the std toyota soverign bar if you wish :wink:

Hi GTX,

There are plenty of options on the market, and different materials used in the manufacture of the bar. Ive seen a few images of both alloy and steel bars after impact and the steel would be my choice. Alot of the guys who have alloy sovereign bars end up with an ARB bar down the line.

Depending on style, you can get a steel ARB for as little as 1.5K, but your options are limited by your back pocket.

I Like the Steel TJM Type 15 as they come with a separate heavy duty winch cradle that the bar bolts to, makes it very easy to fit the winch & recovery points & protects underneath the bar, Easy to fit to the standard front bumper mounts, But thats just my opinion

Have had several b/bars over the years - in my experience.....
essentially Kangaroos will bend aluminium :-) - obviously a big one will bend steel! - i had a sovereign bar on my first prado -hit a small roo and the b/bar folded back into the bonnet and probalby did more damage than if it were not fitted at all.
I dont know much about "other" steel bars -but have had 3 ARB bars on different cars over the last 5 years and would not buy anything else...

I have heard great reports about ECB Bullbars - as a matter of fact, there is one in the For Sale section on this forum :wink:

boyz & girlz, when i think of bullbars it gotta make the prado look tough' ....
the tjm ones still look too yuppielike, the ironman looks like it wont take a good 'nock, the sovreign is a after thought,
my moneys on arb deluxe( black ). people sh*t 'em selves when they look up and see a black bar....in their revision mirror.

makes the prado look like its ready to eat , with a missing front tooth, very tuff :lol:

. last point... they come with a ARB sticker, which is a plus !

You could say exactly the same about TJM with the T cut out :roll:

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I would not be caught dead with a TJM bar only because I think they look unprofessional and the one's I've seen the welds look ordinary.

So it comes down to your own choice but to me it seems like there are a lot more ARB bars listed on this site than TJM but I could be wrong.

Definitely looking at an ARB bar round the end of the year, has anyone heard of any imminent price rises that may make me want to jump before Christmas?

The best bull bar is whatever gives you most bang for your buck when you are looking to buy.

I have the ARB deluxe bar, and it seems ok - but the only reason that i have the ARB is because it was already fitted.

An important feature of any bull bar is to have a flat top surface in front of the headlights, this provides a good surface to rest your stubby when you are working on the car, changing tyres etc. It is stable so that the beer does not fall over, and it is high enough so that the dogs dont lick the top - I can confirm that the deluxe bar has this feature.

Whatever bar you choose, talk to your repairer and get them to quote to fix with bumper compared to fix with bullbar. Then you just need to cough up the balance between the two. A cheaper way to add a bullbar. It worked for me when I had to replace my soveriegn bar after an accident and I got an ARB Deluxe Winch bar colour coded with fog lights for the price of the excess.
