  • CODAN antenna & Kaymar door bracket pictures

    HI ALL

For interest sake, here are the photos of my installation. Key point, no extra holes in the car so it took a little bit of figuring to get it all together. The CODAN works a treat, antenna tunes up nicely and its great to have HF back in the car :-)

First picture is of the Kaymar bracket screwed to the back door. Only reason for this was to get the HF mount

Antenna in situ to see how the cables would pass through the door gap. No tape on the plugs as yet incase I had to remove it. Decided to put a mother of an earth braid on the antenna

Routing of the cables down the gap between teh door and car. As the braid was a little long, I screwed it to the bottom door hinge and then cable tied the other cables to it. Cables pass down between the bumper and the car. Under the top layer of electrical tape I used self amalgamating tape and sealed it all up.

Found a cable entry point under the car just behind the wheel well. Took a bit of fiddling to get all the cables through the gromet ie: Coax, CODAN control and 15 amp cable for rear door light

Another shot of the carrier with the wheel off

The finished mount on the door.

I thought about using corrugated black conduit over the braid but in the end the conduit would have probably worn through with the door opening and closing. IN real life it doesnt look bad at all. Earth works well as antenna tunes up with no issue. Listened to a couple of VKS guys this afternoon, bit of ABC from Tennant Creek and automated weather reports from Sydney.

    Cheers..Pete

Just did the same install myself.

These Kaymar mount are a sinch to fit and everything is in and working nicely.

Pitty the noise from the Prado is 40dB over, time to do some more earth strapping to try bring the noise floor down a little.

Other than that, some good contacts of 40m, 80m and 10m and VKS stuff.

My setup is almost exactly the same! I ran the earth braid in between the trim to a factory earth mount inside the rear trim. The coax and control cable are run through the same holes under the rear.
I use a little black box to help tune up the antenna from my IC7000, which works really well.
I have no problem with any interference from the vehicle at all. Can listen on 40m with no probs while driving.

Looks very smick, similar to what I spotted on FESA vehicle at v8's at Barbagallo last weekend.

Dare I ask how much it & work light extension pole cost ?

Would this be compatible with the twin wheel carrier I have fitted ?

Don't get me wrong, I have no issues using it, just general vehicle noise and "city" noise is from 25dB to 60dB over and the DSP does a nice job of taking it out!
