The front face of the bull bar should not lean outward from the vehicle.
The ends of the bull bar should be curved to wrap around the profile of the vehicle and must not protrude beyond the outer extremities (not including mirrors) of the vehicle.
The overall height of the bar should be kept as low as possible. It should not protrude above the front of the bonnet line.
In all cases it is important to keep the point of initial contact (between bull bar and pedestrian) as low as possible. This point of initial contact should be relatively rigid to allow the pedestrian’s legs to be swept upward cleanly, similar to the situation shown in Figure 1.
The bar is definitely not as bad as some, but it might be worth getting it approved by an Auto Engineer, seeing as it seems to be outside several of those requirements. Does the manufacturer have them approved, or is that the responsibility of the purchaser?
Re: MUMSRIG to be a guinea pig again. Comp style tube bar!
I dont understand why you blokes are being so "precious" about this bar...you either like it or you dont...simple.
picking on the legality of it doesnt achieve anything.....the manufacturer says its airbag and adr compliant....and even if it wasnt it wouldnt ave stopped me buying it.
because the top hoop leans 5 to 10 dgrees forwards its such an issue?
if you dont like it....fair enough just say so....
I reckon mumsrig looks tough...not everyones cup of tea I agree but some like it and its very functional.

You're right Michael. Anything can be engineered if the engineer deems it to be OK. The best thing about buying something like this from a manufacturer who is going to stock items such as this is, they do ALL the hard work and gain all the approvals and pay for all the testing etc.. We just then need to place an order.

I've already said I like it. Not being 'precious' at all, just trying to clarify the ADR status. You are confusing concern with disapproval - not the case at all.
If it's been approved, (and it sounds like it has), there is nothing more to add.

The point is quite simple.... Because I can! If you knew me you would know I like to be different and do things that I like; not what everyone else may consider as the norm. It called individuality and it's a personal choice, not necessarily everyones cup of tea.
Remember, this isn't actually a 'comp' bar, it's a bar that's been designed to 'look' similar to a comp bar. I like to push the boundaries a little when it comes to offroading, but you're right MUMSRIG is definately not a comp truck. It's mine and my wifes family car that has been modified to suit 'our' individual and combined needs and wants. Some of them may simply be asthetic and not for a particular purpose. I like it and think it gives the Prado a presence on the road unlike any other Prado. It is unique.
Tam has said that she would like to see what it wold be like with a 3rd bar lower down on the wing, so we may look at that in the future to provide a bit more fill and protection infront of the wheels and the beauty of this bar is that it is in 3 seperate main sections that can be easily removed and changed if necessary.

Travelling overseas in my 20's, our group came up with a saying that I still have to remind my self of these days...
"It's not wrong... it's just different "
I like the look of the bar... wouldn't put it on my own Prado but still, I like it.
I can understand the questions regards ADR though... I'd want to know for sure that it was compliant (actual proof/documentation). I could just imagine the 'he said - she said' court case if things went pear shaped
Cheers, Leon There's no such thing as a wrong turn... it's just the scenic route!

G'day Mitch
I was interested to read you have sent your Sovereign bar off for a polish up. I have just changed mine for an ARB bar and now want to sell my Sovereign. Can you tell me who polished it for you and how much it cost? I am in Mandurah. One of the main reasons (apart from clearance) that I changed was because I could never polish up the Sovereign bar to look half way decent. I was thinking it might be easier to sell if I had it polished. Also do you have any idea how much it would be worth if I put it in the Quokka?

A mate of mine is a fabricator and does all my polishing. Not sure of cost as it will depend on how many hours he puts into it. I suspect it would be around the $200 max. You really need to get alot of heat into the alloy for it to polish up nicely, thats why it is hard to get a sheen by hand. He has all the right gear to do the job properly and I would say he would spend 3 to 4 hours on it to get it better than new.
Briffa Engineering (Mick) is the man, the only problem for you is that he is all the way up in Malaga. I should be up there on Monday so I will ask for a price if you are keen?
The bar itself should fetch around the $600 to $1000 (open for discussion) depending on condition and if all the mounts and bolts are included. See if you can get a copy of the fitting instructions off someone on here to provide to the purchaser as well as that will help to sell it.
Re: MUMSRIG to be a guinea pig again. Comp style tube bar!
Thanks for that Mitch
I was thinking around the six hundred dollar mark as is without polishing it up. I guess at that price a buyer could spend a couple of hundred to bring it back to new and it would still be a very cheap bullbar for them. It's in good nick but as you know they are impossible to polish by hand. I have all the mounting bolts and plates and also have the Toyota fitting instruction sheet so now all I need is a buyer. It will be in the Quokka this week.
