My sunroof needs fixing as it "catches" on something - I dont think its my motor... but it bascially gets stuck open until manually force it shut with someone pressing the close button.

I havent even dared to get it looked at yet because i reckon it will be expensive!

Hey guy's,

i drive a 2003 D4D and i gotta tell you, i've always been afraid of that sunroof while offroading..

Two weeks ago while i was on a weekend trip, my girlfriend opened the sunroof all the way- and guess what, it didn't close...

When i called my mechanic about it (experienced toyota shop), he said he'd never seen any of these toyota sunroof components actually break.

its one of two options: dirt and lack of oil- on and in the rails, or one of the "teeth" driving it up to "tilt" got jammed.

Luckily mine just needed a thorough cleaning- about 4 hours of work taking apart the roof and all the sunroof parts, cleaning and oiling, the problem was solved.

i decided not to attempt the fix myself because i was warned of the steep prices of these parts.

Mine went a year ago, replaced whole thing under warranty. No idea on costs...

I took mine to the toyota dealer and they said that it was the motor

the new motor costs $850 and the install $400
might go see after market mob and see if anything they have will fit in its place
