  • ARB FRIDGE SLIDE REVEIW

To all those that have had experience with the ARB fridge slide.
Could you please review this unit, ie. ease of use, build quality, lock mechanism, rattles, etc.
Looked at one today at ARB Regency park, Robust feeling unit, solid looking and serviceable parts.

    Cheers Troy

    Re: ARB FRIDGE SLIDE REVEIW

I have an ARB slide to suite their new fridge altough I have 40l Engel sitting in it. I find it runs nice and smooth but some of the powdercoat has worn and is stuck to the roller bearings but this is easy to clean off. It only rattles when the fridge is not in place. The slide distance is approximatley 500mm and should give enough clearance to allow the fridge lid to be open enough to access. As per the photos below this is mounted at the base level of the cargo area and the lid can be open but not fully. If the vehcile was on a slight incline then the lid may fall down and makes you say a few words when it hits you on the head

The unit is strong and robust and I fell confident that it will support a fully loaded fridge extended right out. If the stainless steel bearings need to be replaced then they can easily be removed indervidally. The locking mechanisim can be located to either the right or the left side and will lock in the open position when fully open. The lock is a little small and can require a bit of strength to depress to allow the slide to be opend. The kids have struggled and my wife has complained but can open it where as I don't have an issue. The good thing about it being tight is that it wont open accidently. Would be nice to make up something to help make it easier to open

I have mine mounted to a drawer system with the side panels around the fridge as close as they can be but at the front of the slide has a support which is wider by about 20mm each side than the area that can hold the fridge. Maybe the ARB fridge sits in the base but is wider than the Engel. This means there is some dead space around the fridge but it does allow air to circulate. I have built a hutch to go over the fridge but not shown.

The ARB Fridge has a fitting kit but since I have the Engel with the handles attached I have used some elastic straps I bought from BCF with S Hooks to hold in place. Held it over the Simpson, up to Wilmington and down at Goolwa back in November.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it. If I didn't have this one I would have had the Engel African made slide or looked at one that is sold through 4WD Systems out at Gilles Plains for about $250.

If you want to have a closer look then PM me and we can meet up sometime.

      Re: ARB FRIDGE SLIDE REVEIW

Thanks for the review and pictures Nick.
Availability from ARB is about March/April, would like to have a slide unit fitted prior to Easter.
Planning a Mini Easter trip as a Shake Down before the FNQ Trek.
      Regards Troy.

At which ARB store? Try them all as well as Adelaide Offroad, CMI in the City (they are a reseller for ARB and may do better than the stcok ARB book price). There are other places around as well that sell their gear.
