which dual battery cradle

Just picked up our 2004 gxl this week, things to learn, putting in 2nd battery pirahna tray mounts behind headlight but ARB mounts on firewall somewhere because they say the gaurd cracks from vibration if put behind headlight, I'd rather fit it behind the light :?

There is already info posted on the cracking issue. The basic problem was that when ARB mounted behind the drivers headligyht there where some issues and ARB blamed Toyo and Toyo blamed ARB so ARB moved it to a different location. In the new location the ARB cradle is smaller and holds a smaller battery. A lot of peorple use the Piranha tray behind the front drivers headlight without dramas with big 100Ah batteries. There are also other similar trays but as long as you have a good stong tray that has multiple mounting points rather than just a few then you should be right.

I've had the battery tray made by "Off Road" which I bought on eBay fitted in my Prado behind the headlight, good price and solid construction, Aussie made. The tray comes with installation guide, battery clamp, all bolts, nuts and washers & rubber base to place between battery and tray. All fits in around 1~2 hrs, including drink breaks.
Great price aswell. Also consider getting at least a 3 stage charger to give your second battery a periodical top-up charge as recommened by the battery manufactures. The choice of second battery is up to you and well covered in other posts, however depending on what the load requirements are ( ie fridge capacity/efficiency/ Amp Hour drain of all accesories & whether or not you have a secondary charging option like solar panels whilst set up in camp, its best to consider the battery weight is best kept below 25 kg to avoid the possible inner guard issues. :mrgreen: If you would like pics please PM as I am too shy to post them ( and as its Fiday night and I've pissibly had a few, it maybe easier )

We have many threads on dual battery systems, trays and even the cracking issue is well covered. Please use the search feature, or better still; search PP using Google (more effective) before starting a new thread. Where possible add to existing topics.
