    Big Fella,

It's literally plug-and-play. You run the cable from the top of your steering column (if that's where you are mounting it) and pass the cable on the inside of your dash kick panel down to the OBDII port which is located near the fuse box.

Plug it in and fire up the engine, make some settings like number of cylinders and fuel tank capacity and away you go.

I reckon an untrained monkey would hose it in.

    Cheers,

    Drew.

Thanks for putting me on to this nifty gadget. I've been looking for something to tell me fuel usage, tank range, etc for some time. The ScanGauge does this and so much more.

But what else is really useful to the non mechanical people like me? I don't need speed, water temp may be useful, maybe battery voltage. Is any of the other stuff worth looking at?

A snap to install but my only problem is the velcro stick-ons to mount the viewer don't want to stick to an "armorall'd" dash so any ideas to better mount it also appreciated.

Use isopropyl alcohol to clean the surfaces before you stick anything to them.

Another thing I find useful with the ScanGaugeII is the fuel flow reading. It really shows how driving style affects your fuel consumption, a little less right foot might mean you drop 2km/h up a given hill, but your fuel flow drops dramatically.

Pedro, looks like your sticky stuff is trying to come loose. My Prado is in the hands of the other half today so will be interesting to see if the glue holds on. I have some good quality double sided tape which I'll try this arvo.

The fuel "instant" and the distance remaining are the main features for me. I have a similar gauge in my boat and it is critical for tuning performance and being able to readily calculate your range to the next fuel stop. If the ScanGauge is accurate it will pay for itself big time.

                    Whiteman,
Yes , I am going to use 3M Double lock to see if it holds down better. Having said that it doesn't move around much as it is , so has not been a problem.

If you could keep that up, you should get 150 Km to a full tank!

That should be some kind of record!!

It's garden variety stuff, it's called Isocol in the toiletries section of the supermarket. Get the stuff that's straight Isopropyl Alcohol (Isopropanol). We use it extensively in the electronics industry and buy it in a 4 litre drum.

It's so handy for stripping oils and greases off parts before painting or applying adhesives. Use it before putting a sticker on the the sticker will disintegrate before it comes off.

If you know anyone who works in a hospital or surgery, get them to knick some "Webcol" wipes. It's the same stuff on a swab. It's the stuff the wipe you with before an injection.

                        Hope this helps,

                        Drew.

Thanks again Drew for the names.

I suddenly remembered I have a spray can of CRC Automotive Electronic Cleaner and wonder if this would have the same effect?

Pedro, that stuff looks alright - give it a test on something to see if it leaves any residue at all, basically you want something that totally strips all the impurities from the surface.

                            Good luck,

                            Drew.

                              Drew,
CRC Automotive Electronic Cleaner seemed to work OK and Scanguage now firmly attached.
Good thing it is in an aerosol can.

Hi Guys, this is a great site, got my scangauge from wooders just recently and thought about where to mount it. Then I saw a product called Blendmount @ http://www.mgtmotorsports.com/ . Decided to order one and it works a treat. Takes care of the mounting issue. For reference I ordered the one that is the 7/8" oblong mirror linkage (toyota) type. It wasn't cheap, but it is a neat fix. One down side is I have a very small bit of vibration coming through the mirror, given it's a diesel probably understandable. I'm sure that with some adjustment this can be rectified.
