I was quoted $1755 this week in Sydney.
That is fitted but not colour coded.

ARB quoted me $1908 for the winch bar +$122 for fogs + colour coding

        • Looks great

I would have got one if they had and option like the ARB to be either grey or black.
I opted for the ARB only because it came in grey and has built in recovery points.
TJM quoted $600 to have it sprayed silver!!!!!

          • I was very interested in this bar, to the point that I went and saw one at TJM that had just been fitted to someone else's prado about two weeks ago. At first I was concerned with whether or not you can mount front recovery points. Upon examination of the bar and extended discussions with the sales guy and manager, you can not fit outback idea points. It doesn't even look like you can fit them backwards like some have said because of the shape of the mounting brackets. The second issue I discovered was the spacing between the bar and the headlights! It was at least 30mm - I kid you not - and looked absolutely awful. I pointed out to the installer that I thought the gap was way too large. The guy said it was because "due to the design of the prado the chassis moves around a lot". I said, don't you mean the 'body panels' bounce around a lot on the chassis? Anyway, they were adamant the gap was ok. So, I promptly said I'll go to ARB (or would consider installing myself) because other steel bars that I've seen don't have this gap.

Paulyc - can you measure the gap between the bar and the headlights for me? Even if I can reduce the gap, there is still the issue of fitting recovery points.

            • The gap stipulated for the Sovereign bar is 15mm and I thought I read somewhere on PP that the gap for the ARB bar is 25mm (which I thought was a quite big already)

              • Gap for ARB bar is recommended at 25mm to stop bar hitting body panels on rough terrain. I believe others have had this issue when they haven't allowed a big enough gap and have damaged body panels.

                • I'm just not sure why Toyota stipulates 15mm for the Sovereign bar and ARB needs 25mm? The body movement on the chassis should be the same.
I haven't looked too much into it yet but isn't the bumper connected to the body somehow?

                  • I think from memory the bumper is connected to the guards by plastic clips.

Maybe the plastic bumper has enough "stretch" (Can't think of a better word) to compensate for the movement.

                      Ian,

The gap between the bar and the headlight on mine is just under 15mm. I think you would be able to mount the recovery points backwards however to me it looks like you'd have to drill a hole in the mounting bracket of the bar to access the top hole in the chassis.

I will attempt to post a pic when I get home sunday arvo.

                        Ian,

The Outback ideas points fit backwards with the type 13 bar.

                          • thanks for the photo Nozman. Sounds like that's the best and only solution at the moment.

How did you make sure the hole that needs to be drilled in the bullbar bracket lined up with the existing mounting hole in the chassis? Did you use the recovery point to line up the top bolt hole before drilling the bullbar bracket?

Also have you had to use it, have you found any problems with it facing backwards?

                            Cheers

                              Paul,

I cant honestly remember having to drill the support plate. I think the plate already had the hole in it. If not, I would have done the usual measure and drill routine. I do remember that installing the bar was a pain as it came off about three times during the install to make sure everything was lined up just right.

Since installing the bar, I havent had the pleasure of having of needing to use the recovery points. The only problem that I can see is that the D shackle will be pulled up into the factory tie down points. Before anyone goes to town on me for this, I know that this is not ideal. However, I consider this a hell of alot better than having nothing.

                              • Guys,
I just went thru all this with TJM Perth and they assured me it couldn't be done so they sold me a pair of rated 6000Kg towing hooks which bolt straight onto the T13 roo bar saving about $100. They know better now cause I sent them the photo from Nozman.
Question is are these hooks going to do the job? I will let you know if I ever/when use them.
