It was a GLX which has ABS. I said about 8mts, I did'nt measure it, but it was'nt continual. I think the ABS was working but given the speed, the suddeness of the Vitara coming out, and the on-coming trafic, I do'nt think he had anywhere to go. The clown in the Prado was just going too fast, when it all went wrong.
The point I was trying to make, ( perhaps not very well ) was that bullbars are only as good as the speed your going. If it's too fast, having one or not, makes no diference. IMHO

Have a look at the June issue (Issue #150) of 4x4 Action magazine.

They have a full article on bulbar comparisons, 13 bars tested including ARB, TJM, Ironman, Smart bar and Tuff Bars, both steel and aluminium types. They even tested each bulbar against an imitated roo strike at 80km/hr. It’s a good read and I would recommend it if thinking of a bulbar.

Sounds like the crumple zones in the Prado were doing what they are designed to, that is deform under impact and spread the forces away from the cabin.
Yes it makes a mess and does more damage to the vehicle but it's still the safer way to go!

Have you considered the smart bar? I can vouch for them being a great bit of gear. VERY strong and absorb some of the impact (to a degree) which prevents twisting and damage to the chassis.

No Smartbar for 120, but they have one for the 90 I contacted them last year and they said they were going to do the 150.

This thread being in the 120 section, the choices are Toyota Alloy, Alloy, or Steel. Best chance of driving away from an animal strike is with the Steel and if you hit one hard enough to do major damage to the chassis, that will be the least of your worries.

Thanks for all the comments guys. Got the prado back from the smash repairers 1hr ago with the new arb bulbar fitted and couldn't be happier. The smash repairers colour coded as well so I didn't have to wait for arb to do the painting. Now time to do the suspension replacement tomorrow and refit the XGT HID's to the arb bar
