I had my last 2 cars done by tint-a-car , i quoted my prado they said $440 for Formula1 tint with 25yr guarantee , i said "mate i'll only have the car for 3-4 yrs" 25 yrs and it will be ..... prado heaven .

i got it done with a lifetime gurantee at sun-gard for $240 . (not that i needed lifetime but thats the way it came at that price)

it is a bloody awesome job too .

he will do illegal tint no probs BUT you get no gurantee with it .

also puts Non-metal based tint on the back 2 windows with the antenna on them .

any SA guys , i tried EVERYWHERE and this place is the BEST !!!!

      Hey Billy,

Maybe not a good idea to say company "X" does illegal tint jobs on a public forum?

Bet well done on finding a quality place at the right price. I ended up just getting the front 2 windows done, still it seemed quite exy at $140.

Its not illegal to put the tint on , he can do solid black if you want , its YOU driving with it on your car thats illegal . He does show cars , track cars , boats ect . So its no problem for him 8)

PRADOGXLV6 , that sounds like dinner time at my house with the kids

I also understand where crammy is coming from .

But also the same deal when you fit bigger tyres , depending on size are totally illegal in all states in oz , and where us who have GX models fitting 17x8 wheels , we need flares to keep us legal on the width (mine stuck out 30mm)

They tyre or tinting place has no blame , to them its all on what the customer wants .

Leaving it to YOU/ME v THE LAW and in the case of an accident , even more important ...OUR INSURANCE COMPANY

Many years ago i had an accident that was not my fault in any way BUT the vision i had from my car was questioned in great detail .
It was deemed 100% the other persons fault BUT i would have hated to have had an illegal shade of tint on the windows , it could have been a whole different outcome .
You all know the way solicitors work , the slightest thing can throw doubt .

How about this for a fun (not) experience.

Firstly I have only just got my new Landcruiser 200 series but I will still post here as an ex-Prado owner and very pro-Prado fan. If that's ok?

I bought my LC200 from a dealer in QLD and drove it back to Adelaide over 2 days with a permit. I brought it in the next day to have it registered and it needed a vehicle ID check (engine number, chassis number etc).
The dealer in QLD tinted the windows and according to the SA laws they were 5% too dark. They were letting 30% of light through the front and 20% through the back and it is supposed to be 35% for the front and 25% for the back. This is the rule for 'stick on' tint but factory privacy glass has no rules (an ADR I suppose).
I had to get Instant Windscreens (and yes I will mention them because they busted their butt to get it off straight away) to take ALL the tint off and then take it back to be passed rego.

            You reckon I wasn't happy!!!!!

Instant Windscreens (Prospect) are fitting new legal tint next week.

              Hi All,

I just had my Front Windows Tinted and a Windscreen Visor Strip using Sungard Film by a Geelong Company that I have dealt with for 15 years and they only charged me $140.00, and it it them only 3 hours to do.

The Front Windows were done in Shadow 38.
              Cost: $100.00

The Windscreen Visor Strip was done in Desert Smoke 80%
              Cost: $40.00

These films come with a Lifetime Warranty.

              Here is photo of it:

Looks good stuart i didn't even think of a tint strip on the windscreen was legal?

As for the tip on the exhaust if you look at a petrol they are straight and the diesel has a slight turn down away from the car. Looking at yours you may get a little more diesel soot on the back of your rig. Then again it does extend a bit further than normal.

                      Hi All,

The Windscreen Visor strip is no lower than if you had the internal Visor pulled down.

So it's not blocking any view, so it can't be illegal.

For QLD owners, the Modifications Guide indicates that this would be perfectly legal. Here is the extracted paragraph:
