  • Pic Sovereign BB meeting a red roo at 80km/h, ARB or TJM ? t

    ]Hi All,

Just thought I would share my experience, happened the other night about 22:30 40km's east of Richmond QLD heading to townsville. I had the HID L/force on which work a treat but I came around a corner at about 110km/h and into a slight downhill run and I looked at him, he looked at me. I jumped on the brakes and brought her down to 80km/h and released the brake to lift the nose back up just before impact. It's head hit the top bar and mid body hit the spotty's (no damage to spotty''s what so ever) lower mass that did the damage and pushed the number plate right in.
I was really surprised how well this bar held up I always thought they were just a show bar, I'm no going to go a colour coded ARB or TJM bar, Leaning towards the TJM T13 Outback.

Anyway on with my journey I got out check the damage and then continued on my way, I get about 40km's out of Hughenden and I here a truck driver on the UHF giving another drive a run through of the road conditions and he said be careful because at the lights on the hill road house there is an aboriginal man trying to get on the back of road trains in the truck park.

I get down the road about another 5km (pitch black night still 35km out off Hughenden) and there is a road train stopped in the west bound lane with no hazards on with his torch looking around the rear trailers (Third), I passed him and said to my wife he should have his hazards on, then we passed another road train heading his way so I called him on the UHF and told him to watch out for the road train pulled up with no hazards on and he said thanks I will see what he needs.
Next thing you here on the radio F$%^& me dead he has a ______ fella on his back trailer, they kicked him of then I heard them talking on the radio and he said how did you now he was on there and he said when I heard you giving that other driver a warning I remembered him hanging around my trailer and I had a gut feeling he was on the back. They called the police on the sat phone to pick him up, I'm glad I came across the roo and not him !

Anyone who does not know what a road train is, if you picture a semi trailer but with three trailers instead on one and sometime four trailers 52m long.

I shouldn't have straightened out the number plate, made it look heaps worse when it was all tucked up in that little hole LOL...............

Glad it was not worse than it was, do you have a winch plate in there?

No winch plate, there was still a foot or more before it would have touched the radiator. If I had a winch in place I wonder if it would have made more damage ? Went to the smash repairer today as I'm going through insurance and they told me that you can't get the Sovereign BB anymore, I got a quote from Townsville toyota $3200 for a sovereign BB , I won't to go steel I'm leaning towards the TJM T13 Outback BB colour coded. Townsville TJM T13 $1700 fitted, TJM Mount Isa $1415 fitted, ARB Townsville Deluxe Bar $1720, Fog light kit $81, Color coding $300, fitting $270 Total inc GST $2371........

I think I was just very luck were I hit him right in the middle and I had a bit of time to slow down due to the light from HID's I had a little bit more warning..................

              Nice work mate,

I can vouch for the ARB Deluxe Bar - I hit 4 sheep late last year just near Dubbo - not a scratch on the bar but there was lamb chops everywhere!!

I cleaned up a big roo just north of Alice Springs, I had my 4 HID'S on and the bugger came from the bushes and I hit him with the L/H side of the ARB bar. Broke my fog light surround (again, thats 2) and put a dent in the lower bash plate. That was at 115kph. When I did my lift kit install a few months ago there were bits and pieces still under there.
