For what it's worth I saw this on another web site.

    www.bushwinch.com.au/index.html

I wonder about the strain on the wheel nuts? & I would not allow anyone to stand near the rope. I guess that goes without saying.

Wow, nice find Fazza. Very interesting.

Check out the video. Looks a bit dodgey to me. I love how they use a 100 Series with GrandCraps.

I can think of so many things that could go wrong with that system, not pulling straight and such.

I seem to remember that this isn't a new idea, didn't they have somthing like this back in the 40's and 50's?

    Interesting find indeed.

    Drew.

          Bush winch

          Hi there

Saw this winch at the 4WD show last weekend in Maitland and with you Fazza, they have been around a long time ago. A question I asked at the show stand was "what about the enormous load on the studs" comment came back as not a problem then I was dismissed while shaking my head. From what I can gather the kit comes with two "wheels" and replacement wheel nuts (one for each side of the vehicle) and can be operated forwards or reverse just by relocating the wheel on the studs. Rope is also very thin and from memory about 5mm but it is stronger than the wire rope on electric winches and won't burr like wire (w****r). I can only imagine the result if it let go but they were getting a lot of interested people having a look.

I actually came across these guys filming that video when I was out the Poweline track here in WA back in January. I'm not convinced it would work in every situation. eg if you are bogged down in mud.!! would be a nasty job fitting them up, compared to pulling out a winch cable.!
However they did a few runs with it and it does work surprisingly well.! The spinning wheel becomes a winch, not a bad idea.!

i'm not convinced... it looks to work, and in theory it should work.. but i wonder still how much load would go on that rope if the thing spun and spun for a while... that's just the sceptic in me though!

Well it wouldn't be a lot different to the load on a winch cable. And the other thing once one cable pulls up and the vehicle starts to move there are 2 cables while there's any slippage.! I prob wouldnt buy one, as I also think they are a bit pricey and not suitable to all winching situations.! I was doubtful at first also, but they definately work.. what you see on the video is what I saw in real life.!

i beleive that it works, i just wonder for how long and how much tension there would be in those cables launched if it broke!

plus dragging the whole weight of a bogged 4x4 by one of the wheels is a little concerning.. wouldn't it bend a steering arm if done with the front wheels?

the theory of it is pretty good! but being $900 odd by the time you get it posted, a winch sounds like a winner!

Hi i think its crap, if your stuck in mud it would be easier to just freespool a winch out and drag your self out, instead of having to try and dig around the wheels to put them on then dig out the front to drag yourself out, i didnt see what the price was but it would wanna be under $1000 as you can get a cheap winch for this kinda money. Just looks like it has too many places where it could fail, studs, slippage, uneven pulling, just sounds like hassle hassle hassle to me. winch any day i reckon.

Like Jacto, I also seen these last weekend at the show in Maitland NSW.
Cable did not seem to be rated high enough and in many instances you would have to dig down to place them on.

Also agree re the strain on the wheel nuts.
Possible have their place in some situations however the $ are too high for what they are.

My 4X4 club had a bush winch demo.
I couldn't attend but everyone who attended (who Ive asked) were impressed.
The club CEO ended up with one but I havn't seen it yet. Just the wheel nuts.
When I see it in action I will coment for sure.
