I bought myself An SCR 72L/Pmin compressor (which is almost identical to the mega grunt MX3) from S/cheap today and I've just checked out the great installs on PP.

I was thinking of combining these ideas (Chippys and Justo) by making a heat shield/plate and mounting the compressor on top the same way as chippys but spun around the other way so electrics and wiring is next to the body, and is away from the open part of the engine bay and the heat of the exhaust.

The only down side I can see is that the cylinder side is closer to the fuel filter/line (about 75m) but still a safe distance.

Any ideas or comments would be appreciated as i think installing a compressor under the bonnet is a great idea!

You should have heard the cursing when I was putting it in. Needed 2 more left hands and a couple of right ones too.

Its a big unit isnt it. Must have been tricky to mount.

Top job Billy .. nice, neat job ... and I love the heat shield setup. That's probably the one thing I would change on mine.

                Cheers

Yer its big but fits in that space with a safe clearance around it, so wasn't too bad.
It was easier to mount the compressor up after I made a template up for the heatshield first and checked to see everything fit nicely.

To finish the job off completely I'm tring to find one of those fuse blocks that sits on top of the +battery terminal. At the moment I have a fuse box on the LHS of the battery for the compressor and spotties which means there's a small section of wires running from the battery to the fuse box thats not fused (although the wire is tripple insulated )

yeah I would say the template idea probably saved you some heartache. Job well done Billy.
Does the compressor work good for you??

                      Thanks Plucker

For a cheap compressor it seems works ok. I guest time will tell. I never wanted to spend alot of money on a compressor thats works in harsh conditions.

It takes under 10 mins to inflate all 4 tyres from 18psi to 34 psi

I have used compressors to pull me out of the crap many times and regardless of brands, times ra ra ra, they are a handy piece of gadgetry. Hope it goes great for you.

                          Morning,

finally forked out $280 for the new compressor... must say am VERY impressed taking out of the box. Had to take the floor model, and while buying it 2 others were asking for the same one!! Must be popular!

Plucker - nice pic... will put in the same spot. Did you have to move much to get it there and did you use the mounting plate supplied?

                          THANKS!

                          Nick.

                            Hi Nick,

I found that I didn't have to move any bits inside the engine bay to make the compressor fit. However if you loosen a couple of the bolts on the compressor you can manipulate it to a better shape which will make it fit easier in the small space. From memory, both the brackets and the air valve are movable.

I did use the mounting bracket they supplied, and simply bent the feet to the required shape.

One problem I did have was trying to drill the holes that were close to the firewall. The closer you get the harder it is to drill.

Good to see your new toy has finally arrived.

A picture of where ARB placed the compressor. A tight squeeze compared to the other setup.
