  • Dust entry in through the rear door

My only dissapointment with my GXL Prado is dust entry through the rear door seal,it is a 2006 model with only 60Tkls on the clock. After the second trip outback the dust in the rear was a dissapointment even after cleaning the seal and door inside every day.
    Any suggestions to stop this
    Thanks in advance

Drive with the ventilation set on "Fresh" and the fan "on" as much as possible (only use "Recirc" in convoy/dust storms/oncoming traffic) this will pressurise the cabin somewhat and greatly reduce if not eliminate the problem.

Also check all the grommets are secure in the rear floor area (such at where the trailer wiring enters)

Hi , try using a rear spoiler mounted on the roof, I know that this was a serious problem in the open landrover defender 110 models. We improvised a spoiler that allowed the air to form a sort of an air curtain pushing the dust down , this may help as well to mitigate the problem.

          Hi

The other thing is that depending on the use the rear door has had, the hinges actually wear out and the door sags. You can buy hinges replacements from Toyota if this is the actual problem but it is a fairly large job to do if you don't have a reasonably good workshop to do it.

On the other side with my 25 years of 4WDriving including Suzukis I have got into the habit of spending 5 or 10 minutes in the morning while having my coffee giving the inside of the car a wipe over (the new microfibre cloths are great). Just makes it more pleasant in the car during the day.

          Regards, Richo.

You might have to get have get used to it. I've been having dust problems in the rear of mine since brand new its got the lastest tow bar wiring grommet i've even put extra tape over exposed holes in the rear near rear bar dust stills comes in .On a recent high country trip with our 4wd club there was 2 other 120 prado's after 12 days of 4wd all 3 were full of dust .

I suffered the same complaint on the first trip in our 2006, after complaining to Toyota they suggested to run the air on Recirc as this would pressure the cabin to a greater extent than Fresh.
This is confirmed by the hand book.
130,000km later and more than 60,000 on dusty corrugated road’s and I have to agree.

Recirc as this would pressure the cabin to a greater extent than Fresh.
This makes no sense... if the car is moving and displacing the air (creating a higher pressure) around it and the car is sealed (lower pressure) then the air pressure outside will be higher than inside, high pressure air will always want to go to low pressure air and carry dust with it.

The dust issue is well covered in the archive in an existing thread.

I have just taped up the holes in the rear cross member and one gromet on LH rear so we will see if this helps.
