The left hand body panel in the engine bay has split just behind the fuel filter & water seperator. I belive that this is not new, but is there a quick fix for this?

Are you talking about a crack? in which case drill a small hole at the end of it to stop it spreading further until you can get it repaired.
If you are talking about the wheel arch seperating from the fire wall? then fill it with StikaFlex automotive panel sealer.
