I can tell you, if you get your front suspension to compress or fully extend and you just happen to be on more than 3/4 lock, the chance of breaking a CV is 5x more than full straight and neutral suspension drop, you don't have to go like a bull out of a gate to brake a CV.

I'd be buying them separately so I got two compressors... Doesn't seem like much incentive to get two over one.

I guess that depends on the fitting price.....( I'm sure they have some fat on the install to covers their costs)

All the more reason to fit one. You still have drive after and can get out.

I think you're missing croozza's point. You are not going to break a CV if its not providing any of the driving force as would be the case with an open front diff and locked rear diff in a cross axled situation.

And if you break a CV and have the tools to remove it in field, you don't need a front locker to get you home.

well if you do break a front cv and you do remove it, and have a rear locker you will have equal drive to the rear wheels but in the front all the power will be transfered to the side the cv has been removed, ie path of least resistance, so you only really have a rear wheel drive, but with front locker locked you will at least have some drive to the front, but the more drive the better. cheers samo

Yes 3 wheel drive, Top Gear style! The point is though, that CV joint failure is more likely to occur with a single front locker.

If you break a CV, you will have to remove the inner parts of the broken CV, after this it will rattle about, but make sure you get enough of the broken bits out so as it doesn't bind up, you will also have to lock the centre diff, otherwise you will go nowhere.

Re the locker kit. Has anyone heard about running a heavy duty air line to the lockers.
One shop said just a normal install is fine. But another said you need to upgrade to a heavy duty airline form the compressor at almost $100 extra. First I have heard of this?

I'm not surprised he thinks it needs to be upgraded, when he's got the gear and he wants to sell it.

I have never heard of the standard airlines failing. I have heard others, on the subject of why E-lockers are so much better , claim that dust or sand can abrade a hole in the tube. While this is possible this would take years of non stop desert/beach/mud driving for this to happen.

Would have to disagree with this comment, my 95 grande diesel had traction and stability and had a tag on the rear diff plug LSD, meaning make sure I used a LSD oil, if you look up the specs for a 150 GXL which has all the traction aids standard they advertise a rear LSD. Traction and stability control worked via the braking system like down hill assist, so dont see why having traction control would be an issue anyway with LSD....Cheers Steve

Correct. An LSD is going to reduce work load of traction control. Toyota's decision to run open diffs on some traction control models makes about as much sense as the decision to only have push button centre diff locks on traction control equipped 90s.
