Had a similar noise in my Prado.
Found that there was a loose bolt on the aux. battery tray.
I removed the battery tray, fitted rubber underneath and bolted it down again with an extra bolt and plenty of Loctite.
    No more noise

Yeh - thanks for your replies.

It is still there - just trying to find some time to look further - but i think i am going to start with the aux battery/tray setup and maybe put thin rubber underneath and see if that helps.

unfortunatly - time poor at the moment - so once i find some time ... i will let you know how i go

Thanks again for all the replies ....

          Noise from the front right

          Hi

Don't know if you have solved this problem or not, but I have had a similar noise which turned out to be only the plastic splash guard on the inner front right. I have a Sovereign bar, and when turning right typically or going over bumps I would occasionaly hear this concerning noise from the front.

Turns out that the front section of the pastic guard (where the vents are located) was catching on the white water bottle. Seems to be because the bar moves separately to the body, and the guard joins both together.

The movement was enought to occassionaly catch on the bottle and let out a sharp knock/thud. Toyota couldn't find it, but I did. (had the better half drive up and down the gutter until I saw the issue)

          Cheers
          Chris

            Hi orangpeel

I agree with Chrisf. I has the front RHS guard come loose where it attached to the bits at the base of the Sov.bar. Refixed and no more noise.

Hope ya find it the problem soon.
            Cheers

Have you found the source of you mystery sound yet? I have one which is driving me crazy. It is a loud click/bang from the right hand side either from the right side of the motor or suspension. I mostly hear it when losing traction off road. When I push the accelerator then let it go I hear it. I can replicate it by putting car ramps under the RHF and LHR and use the accelerator to 'bounce' on the ramp. I have pulled off bash plates and recovery points and still can't find it.

I'm planning a trip to the cape this year and dearly want to solve this mystery before I go.

Do you have a second battery installed?

Have you followed pcm_120 advice in checking the sway-bar rod ends and the two sway-bar centre mounts. One of the centre mounts was lose this caused a ramdom knock every time we went over a bump.

Yes I have a dual battery and it's not coming from there. I have also checked all the inner guards etc.

I'll have a another look at the sway bar tonight. I'm off to City View tomorrow so I expect there will be plenty of opportunities to have another look.

Have you taken the battery out and checked the bolts securing the tray?
Found the bolts on mine were loose. I fitted extra bolts and also a piece of rubber between the tray and the body. Knocking noise fixed.

MUMSRIG has/had the same or similiar noise from the RHF only over a deep rut or decent bump.

Haven't looked as yet as I initially thought it may have been the shockie begining to expire...but now it has new suspension installed and I'm pretty sure I heard the knock again... Will check it out when I get home from work.

You can definately discount the C.V's as they will only knock under load i.e. acceleration. Inners will be noisy on accel or decel and outers on accel or decel whilst turning and you certainly know when they knock as it's more constant.....

                              Knocking

                              hi all

Our vehicle has travelled 5000km since purchased new late december 07 and for the last 1000 or so kilometres has developed a knock/click/noise in the right hand front wheel area whilst travelling over bumps. toyota cant seem to replicate this noise to be able to locate its wherabouts. We have the sovereign bar/ snorkel fitted. The noise is of concern. I am thinking its in the pads caliper.

                              Any thoughts??????????

                              Cheers

                              Steve

                                Knocking Noise.

I have just fitted a pair of recovery hooks to the front. We are about to spend a week on Fraser. Imagine my surprise when I discovered the two bottom radiator mounting bolts are missing. The whole thing is loose and was a source of a knock. To have two missing is too much of a coincidence. I reckon the guy at the dealer forgot to replace them when I got a Sov bar fitted.
You also say that you had a set of recovery hooks fitted. I'll bet you that the knock is from the top bolt through the recovery fitting. If you have a look I think you will find that there is only a few mills between this bolt and the bolt that holds the body to the chassis on the front rhs corner. The right hand bolt protrudes a little further as the radiator support is not as wide as the left. There is a fair bit of travel on the rubber mounts. Other than this check that there is sufficient clearance between bar and body. The whole lot wobbles alarmingly but it is just the body moving relatively to the chassis.
150 Vx D4D, Deluxe Arb bar, winch, Hayman Reece Towbar, UBP, P3 Tekonsha, 'n stuff.
"When cooking on a camp fire it must be cool enough to cook on so it needs to burn down to coals, at least in parts. It is customary to drink beer while waiting for the fire to cool down.
I recommend starting with a very big fire"-Vince.
