  • Rust spots on roof

Hi all, just got back from a great trip to mid north coast of NSW and noticed that the little stone chips I had on the front part of my roof now look a little rusty. A couple of them look like the paint is bubbling a bit around them.
The spots are very small but I'm concerned about the rust.

The car is only a 2006 model but I've only had it for a year so I'm not sure what happened with the previous owner.

I'm due for my 90k service so was going to ask Toyota to take a look but I assume that would be costly.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Dan

I would not bother with Toyota, sounds like it would be an easy fix for your local crash repairer.

Any stone chips should get immediate attention. It takes little expertise to use spot painting. E.g. I've used a toothpick to slowly fill some tiny stone chips. It's not a perfect finish, but invisible unless you're studying the spot. This is much better than dealing with rust issues.

If it's bubbling paint, then you'll need to take it back to the bare metal and rust treat it before applying paint. I'd be getting 3 quotes (one would be from Toyota) before deciding how to treat it.

FWIW, I've found Toyota minor paint repair to be very competitive on pricing. It's at least worth asking them.

Thanks LFaR. Good advice. I'll get a few quotes before getting the job done.
I'll also be sure to get onto the stone chips earlier to avoid rust.

Any recommendations on the best paint to use for touch ups?
