Someone said in the closed post that they hadn't seen any reports of Prado points failing. Well a couple of weeks ago on Fraser my son recovered a 06 (I think) Prado with the older style points (welded on - not through the chassis), with his Patrol. I didn't get a chance to say no before it was too late. The point failed and hit his rear shock, destroying it. He said he was being very gentle with the tow. It turned out that the steel base it was welded to had rusted a little and the point straightened.
Without a doubt the older style tie down points shouldn't be used. He was lucky the shackle stayed low.
