  • Internal Panels

How tricky is it to remover the internal panels in the back? I have a 2005 GXL and last weekend some kind person left me a dent just below the back passenger side light cluster. I removed the light and had a look in the jack recess, but you can't get access to the dented area. Are the panels difficult to remove? The dent is on the curved part of the body work, about 9 cm long, parallel to the ground, about 12 cm below the light.

As its on the curve I don't fancy my chances of pulling it out with a suction pad. Hence the question about stripping the back out.

    Any ideas?

Some plastic trim tools come in handy for prying apart panels without leaving marks. There are also some screws that need to be removed.
I will continue back later off to the dentist.

There are a couple of screws beneath the carpet, you also need to remove the clamp part of the seat mount, after that it just pulls off, pretty easy job really.

So under the cargo area carpet is a long plastic tab that is screwed to the floor pan, maybe others.
You will also have to pry out the covers on the rear door scuf guard and remove the screws under them in order to take it off.
this will allow you to turn the carpet over and find the above screws.
You could find that there is multiple layers of body to get through to reach you dent, Toyodiy.com may give you a schematic of the spot you are after.

Thanks guys, got the panels off ok. Dent looks better now, but there is still a trace. Should be a new circle of hell for people who damage cars then drive away.

Cutting diagram shows a 111mm hole for the snorkel with 12 mm securing bolts.
