  • paint protection?

Hey gang, well just received my new prado and it was definately worth the 4 month wait. Just a quick question on your thoughts about getting new vehicle paint protection! Is it really worth doing? How is it done? Cheers daz...

    most are a polish type.
rubbed on and leave to dry, and polished off.
some are not worth the money, but others are good value.
especially for things like; tree sap, and insect guts (good products).
but somethings like bat p*# and some bird p*# are too acidic.
so for most things (to seal the paint) they are ok,
but remember as soon as you scratch it (like most of us do) they start to become useless.
that my experience with these products.
some are just a total waste and then there are others that really work.

Yup, forget it, it's absolute crap & designed purely to line the pockets of car dealers.

We wont get the usual paint protection for our new VX but were impressed by the Ozicozi protective film. It is a tough film a bit like the stuff you cover school books with and it takes all the brunt of scratches and light damage. So we will get that instead. Cost is similar and you can choose which bits you want protected.

We were put on to Ozicozi by Vic Widman who runs outback tours all over (we were at a 4WD course). Says it worked a treat preserving his LC paint.

                    Hi all,

I bought mine with the full deal, Naturgard paint treatment, electronic anti rust unit, underneath protection, inside scotch guarding and vinyl treatment from Toyota and reckon it has been worth every cent.

After nearly 4 years, the water still beads on the paintwork, the inside if easily cleanable with a damp chamois and there is not a single area that looks like it needs waxing. I love it! I also have a roof rack so the idea of battling to get a wash cloth under it doesn't thrill me one iota. All the mud and road bugs and tar come off with a high pressure water rinse.

Would rather be out spending time on the road than being a slave to a waxing cloth. I would thoroughly recommend it.

I totally agree with 'Pearlie', have had my 120 for 4 years now and with the paint protection applied have not had to polish or wax the vehicle and the water still beads (now done 185,000km).
I also have the fabric protection....no dirty seats even with kids, work tools and parts, etc sitting on the seats.
Also had this protection on my 90 series.
I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE - WELL WORTH THE COST

IF you going offroad paint protection does absolutely nothing....
You can also get all that stuff for under $500 doing it privately..

I had it done to my car mainly because of fabric protection and light interior but with 4 kids in the truck it is waste of money....

To anyone querying if it's worth it.... go & speak to someone that actually knows what they're talking about, like a reputable spray painter/car detailer etc. I guarantee you you'll be hanging onto your cash, or better still, investing in a decent wax job from them.

if you do decide to do it, don't do it though the dealer (unless you can talk them in to throwing it in! )... plenty of others out there that will do it far cheaper

I understand and appreciate your responses regarding paint protection.
On previous (non 4WD) vehicles, I have spent many hours polishing and waxing the paintwork.
With the paint protection, all I need to do is wash the vehicle, no polishing required for 4 years now - the protection is guaranteed for 5 years.
As I do a fair bit of 4WD'ing, I get numerous 'scrapes' from tree branches, etc. etc.. The damage is kept to a minimum as commpared to non-protected paint.
So, you can all have your own opinion, however mine is that paint protection is well worth the cost.
