  • Alloy or steel rear bumper

    Hello all

to the amusement and benefit of my fellow Prado 4be drivers and friends on the weekend, it was my turn to grade an embankment and in doing so, detail my rear bumper.

Does anyone know where i can get either an alloy or steel rear bumper to suit a 120 series? im rather tired of painting and sticking the plastic bits back together.

    cheers

    Michael

thanks - Just contatced them and was advised they are a just released product and about 4-6 weeks away from placement of order.

I guess SA ARB/TJM etc will hear of them soon and let people know as they were not aware of their release when i rang them this morning.

I noticed a steel rear bar and spare tyre carrier on a 120 that belongs to one of the TJM guys in Perth. Looked like a well made setup. Don't know what make or anything about it, but they obviously can source them from somewhere. Might be worth a call or I could check it out next time I'm past there.

Justo - pls do ask the question. nothing gained is nothing lost! As im located in Adelaide - whatever i get will need to be sent "down under".

As enticing a drive to the western side of this great nation would be, i simply cannot justify the $10,000 cost in fuel!

            cheers

The ones on the Prados in Perth are most probably from K&N 4WD
              http://www.kn4wd.com.au/
They have been producing rear wheel carriers / bumpers for the 120 Prado for a couple of year now.

I don't think it was K & N after looking at the pic on their site. I'll prob be past there this mornin and I'll ask and even grab a pic if the Prado is there.

Enquired at tjm. It's an Outback bar. Bit over 1500 just for the bar and 2700 with the spare wheel carriers.

Okay after getting the quote back to touch up the rear bumper I have decided to go the whole hog and get a stell bar for the back with swing bar tyre mounts.

I figure I could fork out the $500 and repaint the bumper and have it scratched up again the next day or go the steel bar route.

So now the search is on for a good steel bar.

checked out the opposite lock one the other day and thought it was very tidy.....

i will seriously looking into one of these as my rigs rear has coped heaps and departure angle improves greatly with the steel bar plus you have a added highlift point..

                            An FYI

I just priced a kayman rear bar for the '08 D4D, $3324 + $213 for fitting. ARB hasn't fitted one of these yet here in Perth as they are so new. They suspect your existing bumper will be modified to suit the rear bar as opposed to supplying replacement bumper parts to suit. The rear bar cannot be painted as Kayman says the paint will just chip off, my guess it's standard automotive paint and not powder coated.
