Rattle/Knock from the front (I think) when on a rough surface

Hi all, I think this is one I may need to get professionally looked at but thought I'd see what suggestions everyone has.

It's a 2009 120 V6 4L with 120k on the clock and when driving on a slightly rough surface (like a basic dirt road, nothing bad) there is a rattle/knock/clonk (sounds a bit too to "thunky" to be a rattle and a bit too light to be a knock/clonk if that helps :P )

This happens when travelling in a straight line so it's not related to turning the wheel but is persistent as long as you are on a rough surface. It's also not consistent in frequency so certainly sounds like something loose.

Thoughts are suspension or sway bar (and probably a bush somewhere) but everything seems to be pretty tight and I certainly can't see or make anything knock by pulling and pushing, even tried heavy bouncing on the bullbar and everything seems fine.

I've checked the wheel arch trim (suggestion from the forums) and one side was very loose with some plugs missing so I thought that would be it but it's made no difference when I fixed that

I just sorted my issue - sounds like yours by tightening the screw holding the front (external) fender in place.

ive got the exact same problem im putting It down to front cv's get underneath and twist axles back and forth see if you think its the same noise

If you have a winch fitted check the rollers. Ours rattle like bolts in a tin bucket. Sounds terrible on corrugations until we worked it out.

Most likely it is the steering column! An expensive fix! Replaced mine 2 years ago and been good since!
