  • Door Handle Scuff Plates

    G'day all,

I was out yesterday in a work mates Pajero VRX and noticed that it has chrome scuff plates under each door handle to prevent scratches and such.
One of the bugbears of owning a black Prado is the number of scratches and other marks that show up in the paintwork and over the couple of years that I have had mine, a few scratch marks have appeared under the door handles and try as I may, they don't easily polish out.
Has anyone ever explored the possibilty of finding out if these things are available to fit the Prado?
Aside from offering protection from scratches they may also add a bit of bling I reckon!!

    cheers,

    Dobbo

Thought I'd give this one a bump.

It would be interesting to know if anyone has found a solution.

I reckon they would look like shite..

Just use the 3m Scratch resistant vinyl and apply it. Same stuff porsche and other car manufacturers use on the leading edge of the wheel arches to stop stone chips.

I have a black Prado and hear your pain. Best thing I found is a clear contact type material that some manufacturers use on their vehicles around wheel arch dog-legs, bonnets etc. Think I got mine form an auto shop years ago. I need to get some more for my Prado (yes, my second black car, think I would learn!)

That's why we bought a white one. Second choice would have been silver if white was not available. I know it's "boring" colour, but I have a 12 year old white hulux that has bush bashed for 4 years on an island with almost no roads. The paint is realy badly scratched (some places down to metal) and from distance you can barely see the marks. I just put turtle wax on it to keep water out of the scratches so that they don't rust and she looks fine.

...scratches still visible on Silver My rig is living proof of this.

Guys if anyone is after some of the clear film let me know as I have several offcuts of the stuff (I use/install this stuff on the front of vehicles). I still have to do a proper detail on mine so might get a template done up this weekend and see what size it is and get back.

                  Re: Door Handle Scuff Plates

Ok I have finally had a bit of time to post up some pictures of the one door handle I have done (will get time over the next few days to get the rest of the door handles done and get a good template).

Before cleanup (done during the day while the film was applied after dark)

                  Nice and clean

                  Film with backing paper

                  Finished product

Chris I would like to get some as well, my drivers side and the rear door are the worst at the moment. Let's know what cost and how to get them. Many thanks for your investigations!

Seeing as I started the thread I guess I'd better put my hand up for a set as well
Let me know if you can sort me out with some and what the cost is.

                          cheers,

Thanks for the replies guys. Didn't get a chance last weekend to finish off but should get time to finish my car and get a good template done (needs to be slightly larger to cover a bit more).
