  • vibration in roof lining

    Hi All

Has anyone had any probs with vibration in the roof lining near the sunglass holder/front interior light fitment, just got back from 6000klm rnd trip from Melb to Alice etc via Oodnadatta Track & expeienced at times very annoying vibration in that area, could stop it temp by pushing on linging but soon came back...grrr, now back in Melb on normal roads it,s ok again, but no dout as soon as we hit the tracks it will be back.
Does warranty cover this? any ideas.

    Cheers

I am sure warranty would cover loose roof linings, piont it out at your next service or sooner if you are worried.

I have the exact same vibration in my roof lining. When city driving, I hear it on some gear changes when the engine is labouring slightly.

I've been using the same tap/push method to make it temporarily stop.

I thought the problem may have been unique to my vehicle, but on hearing others have experienced it, I will also advise Toyota of the noise when the vehicle goes in for it's 10,000km service.

yeah i have heard it in mine, but i put it down to just a manual diesel vibration, thought it might just be as simple as the wires for the lights vibrating against the lining, in the end i just learnt to live with it

                vibration in roof lining

                Hi All,

Thanks for your feed back, seems it happens in a few vehicles, mine is definately nothing vibrating in the sunglasses holder, i can physically push on the lining & stop it vibrating for a while & when you are travelling along miles of dusty outback tracks/roads it,s hard to put it at the back of your mind...for me anyway, it became very annoying on recent trip up Oodnadatta track & track into Chambers Pillar.
I will definately be taking problem up with Toyota at next service.
                I will post Toyota,s response.

                Cheers

Had the exact same rattle :!:

First time into toyota with the problem they "tightened fittings in sunglass holder/interior light assembly" ... went okay for about a week after that.

Second time to toyota and they "re-attached lining to roof" apparently it had nothing to do with the sunglass holder in the first place. Hasn't rattled at all for over 5,000 km

I had the same problem within days of picking up the prado ,I managed to fix it by removing the lights set up and placing some sponge inside between roof and linning .Found out it was the connection plug for the wiring that was rattling ,now 10,000 klms and never been heard since.

                      vibration

                      Thanks all for the feedback

I think i will do the same as BlackD4D & put some foam around fitting.

                      Cheers

I had exactly the same problem.

Take it back to toyota, it is a small broken fitting in the sunglass holder which is a pain in the arse to access. If you get it done at service make sure they separate the warranty time (no charge) from service time and make sure you tell them to clean their hands on reinstallation or they will put greasy finger prints all over the roof lining and then have to clean it up for free !!

For the mean time, you can reduce it by wedging a bent in half business card in the gap between the roof lining and the sunglass holder. This will lift the roof lining slightly (3mm). I found if you did this on the passengers side it works best.
"Ooops I just deleted the internet, lucky I was able to recover 99.7% of it out of the bin"

                          Hi all

Somewhat related to this topic (and saving creating a new one)

Does any one know how or have any tips on how to remove the interior light and courtesy light/sunglass holder fittings??

Looking at installing a new roof console myself and any tips are appreciated.

                          cheers

Grab the forward edge and apply some steady pressure. There are two spring clips, similar to the side strip on the center console, that will let go and then rotate the fitting towards the rear. I think it is the same for both fittings.

One tip on the overhead console, I was having some issues with noises from mine and I worked out it was the wires in the consoles vibrating against the plastic of the console. Ended up pulling it out and applying a some electrical tape/cable ties to hold the wires steady.

                            Cheers,
                            Kevin
