  • Paint defects on silver prado

Picked up the new Prado 5 weeks ago and absolutely love it. Cannot stop raving about it. Just want to keep driving it.....
The only issue with it is some paint defects on the Roof and Bonnet. You can only really notice the marks after a wash when drying. Its like a jam tin size mark and 2 runs off it on the roof, 3 other tiny marks with 2 on the bonnet. Very pale sky blue against the silver duco. The marks seem to be under the clear coat as they put a little cut on it nothing happened.
Toyota have had a look at it and taken some photos so we will see what happens over the next 3 weeks. Probably have to be repainted which im not real keen about but new car expect it to be perfect.
Has anyone else had paint issues?

ive seen it on a few mitsubishi's before (both lancers), but never on a toyota..

i checked over my car very closely before accepting delivery.. (i was seedy from my bucks party the night before too  )

best of luck getting toyota to come to the party.. i would do whatever to get it fixed..

so you can just scratch it to buggery playing off road later

I havent got my prado yet but when I ordered it the sales guy said it comes with a couple year warranty on the paint..... Take it back, they should fix it for free.....

I guess thats what happens when you purchase a Silver Prado rather then Black

Bit of an irony coming from Black Prado Chick, seeing as her signature is "A Four Wheel Drive is not a REAL Four Wheel Drive unless it is covered in scratches!!" ops:

I must say that is 1 thing I am worried about as my cat tends to jump from the roof of our 2 story house onto the bonnet of our White 1986 hilux.... I am sure the hilux isnt built for 6kgs falling from the second story, not to mention the scratches

Just make sure you don't wax it!

Our cat went balastic on the bonnet of my ss after I waxed it... It was sort of amusing until I saw the bonnet!

Simple fix really....get rid of the cat.

Silver is great for for hiding the scratches.

Dark colors look bad after a while with all the scratches.

                  Cheers

Update, Dealer says that toyota have issued a bulletin regarding this. Its due to the white sticky sheeting which toyota use when transporting vehicles. Sometimes the paint work has a reaction and it will disappear eventually, just need some warm sunny days. So will give it a few months and see how it goes. Toyota will if required put the car in a paint oven booth to speed up this process or some sort of heat blanket. Anyway looks like just need summer to hurry up and get here.
At least it doesnt need repainting..... fingers crossed.

I noticed some marks on the bonnet of my silver Prado when new. The dealer said that they were sweat marks and agreed to remove them at the 1000km service using heat of some sort. It worked well as the marks disappeared and have not reappeared in the three years since. It sounds like the same problem so the heat solution should work.
