  • '05 Prado rear door-Broken due to gust of wind catching door

Has anyone had the rear door open 'too far' on their prado causing the door not to align and not close without banging?? I had this happen to me recently on the dunes - the door blew out of my hands in a gust of wind and with the vehicle being on a downward slope the door flew completely open. The result is i cracked the body sealer and split the outer skin of the door open...The car was in warranty and i went to my smash repairer and he said it is a warranty issue - Toyota agreed and i am getting it fixed on Monday - a whole new door! The problem lies with the strength around the rear hinges and apparently it wasnt strong enough...thus the new door is stronger...

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem? Had it fixed under warranty AND has any suggestions for stopping it again as my warranty runs out at the end of this month!! It needs a strut of some sort to 'ease' it open a little....

    Thanks,
    James

Perhaps re-titling the Announcement thread to "PLEASE READ FIRST - BEFORE CREATING OR POSTING TO A THREAD" might help.

Moderation is enjoyed in moderation. Ain't that the truth. Don't be too harsh on on we lightweight posters!  Everybody should get one chance!

As discussed at great length though. I, along with many others see the rear Prado door as a bit of a weak link. I once had my Hilux driver door slam open in a strong wind and it nearly stuffed the whole thing. Some "strong advice" got it going again but it was never the same. Now if that was a Prado rear door at that time, I think I'd have been watching it fly off the cliff (was at a beach down south) and far over the horizon. Some guy fishing off Africa probably would have been a bit startled as it removed his flybridge, or his head!   I'll wait and see how mine goes but the hinges really look too small for the job.
