  • Convex mirror annoying

One thing i cannot stand is the Concave mirror on the passenger side. It's downright dangerous. So i need to change it to a normal mirror. One option which my uncle did on his nissan was he got a normal mirror cut the same shape and stuck it to the concave one. So much better but you can tell its stuck on. I think i'd rather a factory fit one for the passenger side. Whats the best option or is there someone out there that can remove the concave mirror and install a flat? What have others done or maybe im the only knuckle head who cannot handle the concave view.

Thankfully my 90 series has the flat mirrors. I can't stand all the weird shaped mirrors on modern cars.... so no, you're not the only one
Flat mirror with a blind-spot circle... works for me

But no... sorry, can't help with your question.
    Cheers, Leon

I not 100% sure but I think the concave mirror on the passenger side is fitted to meet current ADR's.

If you choose to fit a flat mirror your Prado may be defectable, then there's the insurance issues if you happen to run over a Mini that was in your blind spot  ....

Might be worth a call to your insurace company and local road authority to check out the legalities.

                  Re: Concave mirror annoying

I think you guys mean convex mirror. A concave mirror would make objects appear closer than they really are, whereas a convex mirror makes objects appear further away (but give you a broader field of vision) ala the LHS mirror.

Yep.. the L/H mirror is meant to be a convex mirror. Perhaps this explains the problem - you've got a concave one??? :?

Looks like the title of this thread needs editing. ops:

By the way, how often do you spend looking at this mirror? I would've through you'd only really use the mirror when parking, overtaking or changing lanes (right to left). And only for relatively brief glances.

                      Re: Convex mirror annoying

Yes a convex mirror. Edit done i think....
I do find it a pain when changing lanes as you nearly chop the LH car front off. You look in the mirror and see approx 2 car lengths gap but in reality your barely past there front bumper.
The previous commodore had the convex mirror but being small in size it wasn't too bad.

                          Re: Convex mirror annoying

My mate commented on the shiney crome mirror cover, he said the best thing about this is that you can use it to shave.

I said to him, I just use the other side, it's a mirror.

It's a bit like my missus story (unfortuneately this is true).

I took the dog to the Vet, got some shots, including distemper.

Thats gold  , being a courier on an off for 12 years, you tend to use the mirrors more than the shoulder. Dont have a problem with it.
Mind you, you ask my Mrs to back out of the driveway straight, look out... haha bless her.
