Rear Door Stuck

Hi All,

I've got an '06 GXL and I'm Interested to know if anyone has had this problem before...

Went to the car this morning, opened up the rear tailgate, put some gear in...all good. Went back to the car 5 minutes later and the rear door would not open, it feels like the door is locked. I had not locked or even moved the car in the mean time. Tried locking/unlocking but nothing makes any difference the rear door wont budge.

Next problem is going to be getting at the guts of the door with a cargo barrier in the way...

Any pointers appreciated.

Has something fallen against the lock, this has happened to me and the door would not unlock until the item was removed.

With the cargo barrier fitted it is harder, you could try hooking the item out of the way or if it is only one item that is blocking the lock try driving forward and hitting the brakes hard, you might get the item to move enough to unlock the door :wink:

Yeah... I've had the same experience. Much more difficult with a cargo barrier fitted and rear space fully loaded!!!

I have a 120 series 2006 GXL Petrol. The same thing happened to me - I went to open the rear door and the door was well and truly stuck. I could hear the lock clicking on and off with the remote but it seemed as if the mechanism was stuck. I brought it back to the dealer who told me that the mechanism was jammed and ordered a new one (under warranty). It arrived a few days later and I was told that it was not the mechanism, but the door had dropped, jamming the mechanism. The door dropping, so said the dealer, was my fault, as it appears that something had at some time in the past been wedged in near the hinges. I pointed out to the dealer that there had been an issue with doors sagging on the earlier model prados to which I was told that Toyo had spent a lot fixing the problem and that it was not a design problem in my case but a problem I had caused.

I was also told that because of the new design in the hinges, etc. the door could not be realigned, but could only be replaced or (if I wanted to take the risk) given to a panel beater to try to lift up using a jack, etc.

I jacked the door up myself, using a block of wood under the rear door to stop it denting. 10,000 km later the problem has not returned.
