  • Paint Repair

My new used Prado has a paint defect on the front passenger door.

A search of the net located a mob called Chips-Adelaide, here is their link (please delete if against the rules? http://www.chipsadelaide.com.au/

I have never used them before, however, they are doing the job next Thursday.

Here is a picture of the damage and I will post a picture of the completed repair on Friday.

    Anyone used Chips-Adelaide?

    Re: Paint Repair

I will be extremely interested in the outcome of their repair work. If it is satisfactoryI might give them a go at the rear bumper instead of having the panel beater take it off and repaint it.

      Re: Paint Repair

Here I am sitting at Jarvis Toyota waiting for the bloke to finish the paint job.

He has taken about 2.5 hours so far and I have another hour to wait.

The price is reasonable at $140.00

My next post should be a picture of the completed job.

        Re: Paint Repair

that's not too badly priced! i got quoted far higher than that for a smaller scratch from my local dealer.

        be keen to see results!

            Re: Paint Repair

            Here it is all finished.

In a couple of days I give it a polish with Meguires Wet Look and it's better than new.

            Cost all up $140.00

Yea, there service lounge is very upmarket and cool. They have free softdrinks, free coffee tea etc, bickies, the biggest plasma I have seen, putas to go online and a few mags.

I just noticed some grey on the handle, it's the reflection of my jeans.

Speaking of paint repairs, has anyone had any experience with "The Touch-up Guys"???

From what I have gleaned it's a franchise of mobile paint, chips and minor dent repair in New South Wales. I've accumulated a few scratches, dints, dings etc over the years and was thinking of one day giving them a tingle. Anyone tried these blokes??

there's many "touch up guys" franchisees around nowadays.
We've used one on the Sunshine Coast Qld and happy with the cost and the job.

However, have found similar franchisees are now so busy doing work at car dealerships, used car lots etc that they don't have the time to

                          Re: Paint Repair

this is what i do for a living, in brisbane.
i wish those photos of the repairs will still up, i'd love to see the finish that was acheived for $140.
normally a mark on a door like that would need to be resprayed.
on site car repairers, like myself generally only reapair and repaint those plastic items on cars, bars ect.
and ya right, we are that snowed under with dealer work at the moment we dont have time to wash our on cars let alone take on private work. which is a shame because the money is better doing private work, but the continuity of dealer work has to take precedence.

                          cheers

That's the best I can do as the other photos were deleted by ??

I have been back to Chips Adelaide twice since, they have now repaired all the scratches etc and the Prado looks as new.

I was aware that gold was the hardest colour to match and respray, I hand it to these guys they did a great job and I challenge anyone to see where the repairs were.

To repair the rest of the scratches (there were quite a few) took them two full days and cost me $500.00.

I found the best bloke to be a pommy who has only arrived in Australia. He told me he was a spray painter panel beater by trade and ended up working as an expert witness for the Courts in relation to vehicle accidents etc. I think his name was David. This bloke is a real professional who is a perfectionist.
