Looks to me like you have made a handy plough!
How difficult will it be to clean behind after a day out in the mud?
I think you would be better off removing the rear bumber a replacing it with a slimline steel item rather than try to protect the already low plastic bumper with an even lower piece of steel.

It won't work for me, cos I got the 21L water tank in that slot. :|

Good concept, however it would be probably work better without the fins. Can you take a photo of the rear from a few metres back at about knee level?

Fins make it look a bit Mad maxish.
            gotta weigh a bit?

Is it open along both rear ends? If so I can see the fins hookiung up and then squashing the thing and effectively clamping the bumper in its hollow section? This would do some nasty damage!

Do you have an image of it finished but not on the vehicle?

I think this is one of Darrens (Assassinoffroad) creations... tried and proven I believe....

That looks pretty good actually... no loss of departure angle and by the looks of it, it would just about take the weight of the hole car.

                      Nice work I say

Mate, I'd say you've got a pretty mean set-up no doubt by the looks of the spare MT's sitting in your workshop/shed and your handy work on the rear protection bar.

How about posting a few pics of your car in the My Build Up thread?

                          Snaga
The fins roughly follow the plane from the bottom of the rear bumper to the rear fuel tank, I've lost about 10mm of clearance.
Yes it is capable of bearing the weight of the rear of the vehicle, beats bringing the rear bumper home on the roof.
                          MickL
I'll leave the owners of Darren's rear bar to comment on it's performance.
As I understand it Darren's unit was not intended to bear the weight of the vehicle.
                          Team Piggy
The RHS is completely closed by heating and shaping flat bar into the curved lines of the unit.
The combination of a closed box and 8mm fins sees this unit unlikely to be crushed, the situation where this might occur would see the chassis badly damaged with or without this unit.
If the fins get hooked up, then the rear fuel tank is history, thats why they are rounded and have some clearance from the tank to facilitate flex.
The unit is bolted to the underside of the chassis rails and retains clearance from all critical components. The bottom rear edge has a flat steel lip to cover the bottom edge of the bumper.
End result is the unit is all but invisible from the rear.
                          Prado BB
The fins are the key, they maintain the line / plane from the rear tank and thus allow the vehicle to drag it's rear off rock steps and the like without being caught up or damaging the bumper.
I'll look for the rear image, but it's boring because the unit is not visible from the rear untill you can see the fuel tank, then the fins are visible.
                          dustie
Does the water tank extend below the chassis rails ?
This unit sits 8mm below the chassis and fills most of the space from bumper to tank.
                          Leachy
The unit is welded closed and is in dura-gal and then epoxy coated. I am not worried about corrosion. Besides 4 bolts and it's off for cleaning and touch ups.
The rear bumper sits 40mm below the chassis rails and cross member
The tow bar / recovery hitch sits considerably lower again.
Slimline steel work means flexible, so It bends until it hits something solid.
If I wanted to remove the rear bumper I would have shelled out the $3000 plus for a K-mar Bar.
Besides I like the way my vehicle looks and this unit is barely visible from behind.
                          NT Pryce
It does have about 10 litres of volume so anything is possible, could be a good air tank.

Sounds very plausible. Having read your other comments and looking closer, I would say you're on a winner. Let us know how it performes on the trails.

Any chance of making me one??

Certainly having it closed in is excellent That would make it one tough SOB! Well done! How heavy is it? Looks about 15 kilo or so?
