Paint removal on GX bumper

Yep, I was naive :roll: when i bought the Prado - I have a GX and the bumpers had been colourcoded to the white body work bumpers and of course, hit it with the high pressure and straight off. I'm not trying to save the white, I'm resigned to taking it back to original black/grey plastic until I get a steel bar (& bullbar).

Does anyone know what products are safe to do this? I don't want to take to it with the wrong stripper and see my bumper melt away before my eyes :shock:

Here is the worst spot on the rear bumper but it's happening all over and starting on the front also. I should have a bullbar later this year but the rear bar is going to wait for a bit.

Lot's of GXL white bumpers on ebay, I sold mine for $50, cheaper and easier than stripping/painting etc.

Am I right in saying this wont work unless I have GXL aftermarket flares fitted though?

Earlier GX didn't, newer GX does.
New Standard doesn't.
Different specs on recent Prados.

Anyways, FBP...didn't you go to a shopping centre near you, and come back and find somebody had bumped in to your bumpers, necessitating a respray - courtesy of your insurance co?

Well that's it, they'd do that..in fact someone DID do that and the bottom half of that reflector is broken but not worth the squabble :roll: (well wife and some other bloke backed into each other :roll: :roll: :roll: )
Anyway, I'd spray it myself except apparently something to do with the type of paint/finish on bumper/type of plastic means the normal paint procedure wont work properly which is why I'm like this in the first place. So I'm really after a simple fix which a) wont cost much & b) wont have to be done everytime I go offroad or to the carwash

BTW, mine is an '06 KZJ diesel (not D4D) version. I think the flares were added to the GX around the time the D4D came out. And I "think" that's when the Standard came out.
