  • How to add Sunroof/moonroof?

I have Prado VX 2008 without sunroof. Kindly suggest me if it's a good idea to modify the roof to get one custome made and if its possible for Toyota guyz to fix it for me.

If someone, has already done it, I would appriciate if you can publish the pictures and kindly feel free to share your ideas if you have any.

The thought of a 16 year old apprentice hacking my roof with an angle grinder makes me cringe. If you want a sunroof buy a Grande.

I would be anything but keen to have a hole cut in my roof and a non-engineered piece of glass and frame put in that hole.

Is it possible that Toyota guyz can simply replace the roof with one with Sunroof???

for sure, I can't sell this model now just to have a hole on top of my head :-)

I would be glad if I can find someone who could pimp my ride as they do in MTV and get me a hole on top of my head...

It's not all doom and gloom.

There's plenty of shops here in Aus that do a great job fitting sunroofs. Most reputable installers will tell you straight out whether it can be done and most will insert bracing to ensure structural integrity if required.

          Good luck with the install.

I'm with Crammy on this one. It's not something you want your local dealer doing, you need to go to a professional installer.

            Have a look here:

I spotted these guys at work in there Bathurst workshop a couple of years ago but I didn't get there number at the time as I didn't think I would need nit for anyone. They are a little rough with the final trim but the are quick and cheap. If you can find them I don't think it would take long to convert a Prado

Don't forget to get the front passenger side of the sunroof reinforced to support the mount for the .50 cal machine gun while you're at it!

WHy not hunt around the wreckers for a wrecked grande. Get the section cut out of the roof so it can be used as a template. Remove the sunroof from the roof section of the wreck and have a panel beater use it as a template to cut a section out of your roof.

Then fit it to yours. Make sure you get all the bits from the wreckers like wiring harness, drainage tubes etc

Totally doable with a little effort.

ive had 4 vehicles with a sunroof . in the last two i realistically never used them they're more of a pain in the arse than anything. nice for posing or shooting at stuff out of . you'll spend a bucket putting it in then after 2 weeks never use it and when it gets old it will leak , rust but probably both. mind you i work outside and the last thing i want in summer is more bloody sun beating down on my head or heating up the cabin . at night you get reflections off the glass which make it hard to see . just my opinion but i wouldn't miss mine at all , and if i break it im up for $4500. happy days

Confucious say: Never drive behind cattle truck with sunroof open! I had a Cortina Ghia back in the early 80's and came up behind a cattle truck in outback Queensland. I got a little close and I saw this big steer raise his tail and then a ton of green erupted out of his southern end. I tried to accelerate and pass but it just came straight through the open roof. Fortunately it semi-dried in the air but did it reek! The sheepskins and velour upholstery were never the same again. Now I just have a car with no roof whatsoever (Cobra) and avoid livestock vehicles.

All depends on if you think you will use it. I used the one in my 80 every time i drove it and it wasn't raining. I use the one in the grande the same amount accept the one in the grande has a tilt/vent option which i use when parking the car in the garage or undercover parks so it isn't hot when u get back in
