You are better off to keep them. You won't always want the ARB racks on as they limit shopping centre car parking etc.
I swap between my original Toyota roof rails (for original appearance) and my ARB racks depending on what I am doing.
It only takes about an hour to do the job as long as you have one or two other people to help you on and off with the ARB rack cage.
Alternatively simply hoist the ARB rack cage up onto your garage roof with a system of pulleys. I am sure that I have seen this done somewhere on this forum.
