My windscreen is very badly sand blasted too from oncoming traffic. It seems awfully piss weak compared to most other vehicles I can think of. Yet to score a rock in the right place to finish it off though and get a new one!
And yet while scratching so easily it's copped a few decent rocks at speed and never a crack, some minor chips is all. It's like the glass is a little softer than you would expect.
Be mindful that if you scratch a toughened glass (back windscreen or door glass) it will make it more susceptible to going "bang" as it weakens the glass. Large, sudden heat changes or a hit in the area of the scratch are its weak spots.I remember when sex was safe, and flying was dangerous!
