  • Slight play in Bonnet when shut?

    Hi,

I have a slight play in the bonnet when it is shut. I tend to notice it when driving you see the bonnet shake a bit.

Any ideas as to how to stop this? Couldn't find if anyone else had this prob, or if it is even one for that matter.

I do a fair bit of driving on corrugations around Weipa so I'm figuring that may contribute to the "looseness".

    Cheers,

Mine does it too. You can supposedly "wind up" the rubber bumpers under the bonnet, but I have never bothered... If not that adjust the striker latch up a bit.

winding up rubbers work do a degree. if its had an accident and been repaired, ya most likely stuck with it. look for excessive wear on the latch and striker plate.

If, when you screw the rubber bumpers out, the bonnet does not sit flush to the guards, you can loosen the bolts around the bonnet catch. There is adjustment there to push the bonnet catch down. Then you can screw the rubbers in again.

If you are still not happy, remove the bonnet catch and refile the holes on the catch slighty so it will sit lower.

Having said that - my bonnet sits up, and the bullbar jumps around a lot. I gave up looking at it sitting up and got used to it....
        until.....
A while ago (in Adelaide) I had to leave straight from the City to go to the Mallee after work. I was too tight to pay for parking and needed a wheel alignment.
I went to a place on Gouger Street in town and parked the car there all day and got the wheel alignment.
I picked the car up and drove out the freeway. As I was driving passed Mt Barker I noticed the bonnet was sitting up even more that usual. The wheel alignment mob had not put the bonnet down properly and it was only on the first catch. I had been doing 110 for a while and was just lucky it did not fly up on me. I had that happen in an old ute when I was a pup. It frightened the hell out of me.
I keep an eye on it now.
