Well got it back again from toyota - the dealer got 'approval' from toyota to colour code to vehicle (and I had them replace the rounded bolt heads at the same time )

      Looking much better....

      Lower Hinge

        Re: Rear door sagging update

        Grid,
...thats exactly what i did - better doing yourself and doing right ...... adjusting the striker catch is not the 'fix' if the door has dropped.
        cheers, Rod

I took it to Northpoint on main north rd here in Adelaide and after about a half hour came back and said they are all the same and cant be fixed   .
Wasn't happy with there reply and went and looked at others in there lot........and they are right they all sag :?
So i got home and got the toolbox out and fixed it myself.
Undone the top hinge bolts(just under tight) (also had to undo the tail light to get into some of the bolt heads) and used a plastic block on the middle hinge and gave it a good tap and moved it about 2 mm,tightened the bolts again and it is perfect.doesn't drop, doesn't sag and shuts very easy now.
Touched up the paint around the bolt heads and edge of the hinge to body(looks like new)

Anyone else with the same problem might want to do this, as adjusting the striker will lower the door closer to the rear bumper and may hit / and rub the top of bumper.
Its a very easy job and takes about 1/2 to fix.

          Thats a great tip.

          Thanks.

              Hi Guys,

I to am getting sagging of my rear door aswell and it is a bit more now i have just put new coopers on the car. I got 265/70/17 LT ATR and they are a heavier tyre. So keep in mind that if you do get a heavier tyre it will sag. Those rear doors can only hold so much weight.

Good info Brett. I don't s'pose you know off-hand the difference in weight between the AT20 and your Coopers?

My rear door is starting to clunk over bumps and when I close it slowly I can hear it scrape as the latch closes. My 120 is a November 2005 build. I would have thought it was one of the models with the new fixed door.

I'm hoping it's just an alignment issue, couldn't see any cracks when I had a quick look. Toyota are going to look at it when I take it in for my CV boot as per: http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?t=543

Anyone else still having rear door issues? (Sounds like a personal health question. ops:

                  Happy trails,

                  Drew.
                  Hi Drew,
I had the same issue with My 2005 GXL, I had Toyota adjust the rear door to align correctly with the lock striker . How ever my door still clunked on bumps and rough surface, although I was not happy Toyota told me that was normal?
                  Good luck Nigel. 8)

                    Re: Rear door sagging

Recently purchased a 2005 Prado (April build) and I've had the rear door sagging problem. There is also a crack along the bead of sealant. The local dealer was able to adjust the door so that it closes without problems. They contacted Toyota to find out if they would fix the door but the answer was "no". It is obviously a well known problem because when they inspected the door they had a sheet with a photo on it of my exact problem. My question is: Is it worth persuing this further with Toyota head office and trying to get at least partial payment for a new door or would it be a waste of time and effort?

                      Re: Rear door sagging

Definitely pursue it with Toyota I reckon.

They may part the cost with you under 'Implied Warranty'. Take it to a Toyota Dealer as they do these 'Implied Warranty' issues on a case by case basis.

                        Re: Rear door sagging

I had the same problem with the rear door on my 2005 model, with a crack starting to appear on the lower seam.
I took it to my local Toyota dealer and whilst it was a few months out of warranty, they took photos and sent them off to Toyota to appraise.
At first they said they would meet half the cost of a new door, which equated to about $1000.00, however the service guy told me they would take photocopies of my service handbook, which showed that the vehicle had been serviced as per schedule, it may help my cause.
Toyota came back to me to say that they would honour all but $430.00 of the cost, which of course I was very happy about.
Based on my experience, I would say that it is very much in your interest to pursue.

                        cheers,

Has anyone had the happy experience of Toyota coming to the party and paying for part or all of a door replacement/repair when the vehicle is further out of warranty than a few months?

                            Re: Rear door sagging

Just for the info of anyone who is having the sagging problem caused by the door cracking along the join near the bottom hinge: When I first approached Toyota about the problem they contacted their warranty people and came back to me and told me that I would have to foot the full cost of replacing the door given that my 2005 Prado is now well out of warranty. Wasn't happy with that given that it was a recognised problem with some rear doors prior to around the end of 2005 from what I can gather.

I approached the local dealer again and they came back to me with an offer from Toyota for them to pay half the cost of the door. I pay all labour. The quote came in at about $1900. I figured that something was way better than nothing and have taken them up on the offer.

Mine has just started hitting the frame as I close. Looks like my bottom hinge is coming apart with the bushes falling to pieces. Heaps of movement in the bottom hinge. Going to try and track down some replacements with a guy in toyota. Anyone done this recently and know $.
