Good work! How old was your Prado at the time? Mine is 8 years old, not holding my breath your technique will be as effective. Did your dealer respray it etc? Or did it come painted? The labour seems to be a large chunk of the costs in most cases.

That issue made me registered on this forum
2 months ago I bought a 2005 Prado with the same door sagging problem. I found out that bushes in the bottom hinge are not there even, though the top hinge has them. Could it be the cause of sagging problem? I rang local Toyota dealer and asked them for a new hinge and they issued a 110AUD quote for 1 bottom hinge. Will drive there on weekend and take it. Also I read on other forums that some guys are fixing that problem by using a jack and wooden pole under the door by raising slightly the door with a jack, but it seems to me a bit rude way to fix this problem.Automotive Photographer

For anyone that has fixed this by loosening the top hinge and whacking it to re-align, two questions:
1. Did you have to loosen the lower hinge as well? I can't see it being good for the door to "bend" it by only undoing the top
2. My 12mm spanners are slightly too large (tried undoing one bolt and it rounded off one corner but didn't budget the bolt). The 12mm socket fits a dream but there's not enough room to work there to get it in and loosen it. What tool did folks use to loosen this? So far no one has mentioned they've taken the whole door off which would make it easier with the socket...
Brett.

I think the Prado community needs an engineering type person with access to some Hi Tech materials and machinery to develop a solid no-fail replacement hinge! Any takers?
Or just get replacement hinges, I found that it was the bush material that eventually failed. Seemed to be a type of nylon with copper fibers running through them.
Here is a link to some on Ebay.

I come from a panel beating background and if thers no cracks on the sealer around the hinge then it most likely will be the hinge itself .I would not jack up the door . Take some time and have a real close look, the door will have movement if the either hinge is worn out ,eventually readjusting the door will only make the problem come back .

Just had a call from the dealer saying that Toyota would not look at it under warranty! how do I overcome this? I have seen many on here who have had their door replaced after the warranty expired, need some assistance and guidance!
Thanks

I've had my rear door replaced once already (June last year) and the new door is already coming apart.
I've given up with the crap design and have taken the spare wheel off to lighten the load. Makes the door easier to open and close, but will not solve the drama. Why cant they put a split door on as per the 200 series??120 V6, with a little bit of this n that

Dredging up an oldie.
I spaced my sagging door out approx 6 months ago with the washer under the lower hinge trick.
It was beautiful for a month or 2. now it's getting bad again.
kids and SWMBO keep letting door fling open.
I've now identified the bushing in the lower hinge to be almost gone. and a lot of slop in the hole the pin sits in, for the hinge.
Has anyone successfully changed the lower hinge? or both? any tips or how to instructions?
I'm thinking it will be a 2 man job but to assist i'll try and sling the door on the engine crane hoist.
these look reasonably priced
