  • Look after your Mud Flaps!

This is nothing as serious as Drew's recent run of bad luck, but I managed to tear off a rear mud flap on the weekend.

Not sure how I did it, can only guess that when I reversed at one point, I backed into a rock or step that jammed it forward onto the tyre and then when I went forward again - riiiip.

I didn't even notice it until I went to the car wash to get the mud off. (That's what I get for having a play on the Mt Sugarloaf Range track instead of taking the F3 from Newcastle to Sydney )

Anyway, Mr Toyota charges $79.50 (inc GST) for this piece of plastic !

And I can't see that there's much alternative (like a flexible rubber replacement), since it's moulded and wraps around the curve on the end of the bumper.

So be nice to your mud flaps - otherwise it could get expensive.

    Cheers...Steve

    G'day Steve,

Sorry to hear about your flaps.

I've often wondered how long the mudflaps would last on the back of my 120. I'm impressed they've lasted this long.

I haven't had all that close a look at it, but I guess it would be tricky to fit some after market rubber items.

    Good luck,

    Drew.

      All

Along the same line as this thread so I thought I could post here...

With the 2" inch lift we have done on the Prado we are noticing in the wet/dirt trails that we are kicking up much more water/mud then before!

As the car is sitting higher the mudlaps are now higher up the wheel and letting more thru!.. Cars behind cop more water (so what), but when we are towing on wet / muddy dirt roads we are throwing back heaps of crap/dirt/rocks/etc...

Does anythone else have this issue? Any solutions???

      TIA
