Replacement mudflaps

Hi Guys

After ripping off the driverside front mudflap and pretty much wrecking the others im looking for alternatives....
IMHO these are a terrible design, when you drop the front wheel of a GXL over a log or rock it can push up on the rigid mud flap wrecking it and pop off the plastic wheel arch.. When i took it to my equally useless toyota dealer to get re attached (which took two attempts) their "head mechanic" told me that "Your not meant to take these bush bashing",

Hmm i thought i bought a real 4wd with low range and all, not an Xtrail.

Anyhow after reading posts on the costs of a replacement Id rather replace them all with some type of flexible (ie traditional) mud flap. However the way the moulding of the wheel arch terminates at the bottom near the front of the step (with the flap removed) looks like it will be difficut to make anything fit neatly.

That's golden. He's lucky he didn't say that to me. I once had a service bonehead ask me, "Gee do you actually take it off road?" to which I jovially replied "Nah mate, she's strictly a shopping centre and primary school carpark vehicle that one, the accessories are just for show, and the mud is the new spray on stuff they sell at SuperCheap." :lol: I think he got the message. Like you Mark, it makes me laugh when they come out with crap like that.

I'm not aware of any alternative, but as my other post states, I still haven't had all that much time to look closer at it. Maybe something could be built?

I have just suffered the same prblem.Surely not alone in this,so does anyone have any ideas as all of mine are cracked and split and look like crap.I also destroyed the bash plate and have ordered a tjm replacement.any feedback /direction most welcome.

Those filmsy plastic steps are not build to last. I removed mine when i go offroading as they are easy to refit. Perhaps getting a set of rubber flaps from supacheap is the best alternative.

Numb, toss the TJM steel plates away, they are useless and for show only. Get your local fabricators to build you a 4mm thick plate. Will probably withstand the punishment better than the TJM ones.

Numb, unless you are rock hopping i think the TJM plate will be fine, i have one and it has served me well, not heavy duty but much thicker than the factory ones.
