  • Rusted 12v/120W socket in cabin

I use this socket in the front of the cabin for the phone charger but noticed it was very rusted at the 60k service and Tojo organised to get a replacement sent up in time for the 70k service as they quoted 3 hours to replace (what the?).

Got a call last week to say the part is in stock but the work needs to be done this week otherwise the part goes back. Service lady convinces me to book in at 8am and hand around and get the car back by 8.30am. So I agree.

This morning did this and at 10am still no car until I started jumping up and down. Got in the car and they'd replaced the wrong socket - they did the cigarette lighter! This could be put down to a simple mistake except the rusted part was checked by 2 Tojo service jockeys. So they've ordered the correct part this time (so they claim).

Anyone had the 12v/120W socket out of their car? How long should it take to replace?

Well IMO I think you have been suckered into paying Toyota prices and at three hours work, it should be around 30 minutes maximum if you take it slow. I am not a mechanic and know my 120 series back to front having removed most bits and pieces before. The front socket shouldn't take too long even for a novice such as I. Seems you will have to suffer the cost as you have agreed to it. But I would still argu the point and ask to see the service manual where it says its a three hour job.

Make sure that they dont charge you for the first socket that they mistakenly put in.

    good luck
