  • YAW RATE SENSOR PROBLEMS - 04 PRADO VX

Hi Guys, Has anyone had problems with their Yaw rate sensor on the Prado? I had to change on my 2004 VX auto, twice under warranty and now it is playing up again after 18 months and I'm out of warranty as well. My concern is that if others are having similar problems then this could be a manufacturing defect on the Prado and Toyota should take responsibility for this. Please let me know if anyone has had/have this problem and what you did about it. What really happens with the car is while driving on the road the 'skidding car' light flashes on the dash with beeps and the car put brakes on one of the wheels intermittently. Very scary feeling at times.... will be going to the dealer soon...but would like any comments from fellow Prado owners.

    Cheers
    Maddy

Re: YAW RATE SENSOR PROBLEMS - 04 PRADO VX

Is this the steering angle sensor? I have an X-Trail via work & I did some reading since its ESP light kept coming on. They had the same issue with the angle sensor. In my case the brake switch wasn't working (nor were the brake lights as it turned out) & that caused the computer to get confused if you braked & turned like at a roundabout. I had to cycle the power to reset it.

From what your saying though, when they replace that part it does work for a while?

Hey SK, it's not the angle sensor i believe... when they replaced the YAW sensor or re-calibrate it then it works for a while... could be something with the brake switch/light like you mentioned...the computer is definitely getting confused and thinks that i'm skidding or so and puts the brakes on...
God..i hope the car doesn't do a doughnut or so by itself in the middle of the road...

Yaw Rate Sensor Problems -04 Prado VX

        Hi Maddy

My Prado same model as yours experienced exactly the same problems this year 2011.
I took it numerous times to workshop without identifying the problem. Toyota headoffice reply that they never occur such problem but that workshop must check yaw rate sensor. No faults to be found with yaw rate sensor and than last week the same problem occured again at exactly the same spot as two months ago, spooky to say the least.

Now workshop suggests I replace yaw rate sensor. Will this solve the problem?

What was your final problem solution?

        Regards
        Vlokkie
