  • braking problems

Hi guys, my '07 Prado Grande is doing wierd stuff:
    1. Handbrake: When stationary, I pull up the handbrake and all seems well. As soon as the vehicle is moving, if I pull up the handbrake, it has no resistance and pull al the way to the top and goes "clunk" I can hear the clunk sound coming from the rear wheels, not the handbrake lever.

    2. When stepping on the brakes, during normal driving, I can feel a definate shudder. Are my rotors warped? or can it be something else?

    thanks

The shudder sounds like your discs might need machining, as for the handbrake not to sure. Are you aware that the handbrake is a completely seperate system to the foot brake? It has a drum brake inside the disc rotor for the handbrake. If you search around there is a very detailed thread with loads of pictures showing how to pull the discs off and check and replace the handbrake shoes if nescessary might be a good place to start.

      here it is http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...oe-replacement

      Cheers Andrew

        Yep, what AJ120 said.

But with anything to do with brakes, If your not 100 percent confident with your knowledge just book it in with a trusted mechanic.
Does sound like a disc skim and pads for the shudder, and new parkbrake shoes and adjust for the parkbrake.

        Cheers.
